Some may disagree, but I thought Burn After Reading was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. If you like the Big Lebowski you will like it. Cohen brothers other work is also good, No country for old men and Fargo. Also Bound is a great lesbian/gangster flick by the wachowski bros before the matrix

  18. minor point, but drug companies don't make money by searching for drugs, they invest money doing that and then recoup it by selling it at prices only the rich can afford to get a drug from the lab bench to store shelves in north america is somewhere between $500 mil and $1 bil I don't know how the copyright/patent law would apply but it's entirely possible that if a folk remedy was commonly known enough then it would be considered in the public domain, and thus not worth the time of day from a big pharmaceutical firm edited since i posted last: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/10/AR2008121001601.html?hpid=moreheadlines 38% of americans use alternative medicine

  20. Alternative medicine has been around so much longer than western medicine that I'm sure it contains many hundreds of remedies that clinical, systematic drug discovery techniques wont reveal any time soon. There's no problem making use of a remedy that works for you just because it's not widely recognized, even if it is just a placebo effect. I'd assume the only real problem is unforeseen drug interactions that many doctors, let alone shaman, would never realize until or even after it's too late. When the cure makes you worse off than you were before, that's a problem. The alternative practitioners don't have notes, or any real sense of what happened or why, so they can't prevent it from happening again. I think more effort should be made to bring the two divergent systems together, particularly researching the root cause of effective alternative therapies. None of this includes reiki, which is just total BS.
  21. i say no just for the illegible icing disaster
  22. danny and myriad are the only ones who don't look stupid in a nutshell, relativity says that space and time consist of the same material, namely spacetime. now the absolute speed limit of anything (light included) is 300000 km/s but that speed is split between your velocity through space and your 'velocity through time' what that means is the faster you move through space, the slower you 'move through time' ie the slower you age if you could reach the speed of light, it would require an infinite amount of energy (which is impossible) and you would cease to exist in time quantum mechanics basically says everything is random chance, and particles simultaneously exist in a weighted average of all possibilities until they are interacted with or measured, and then all of those possibilities collapse into a single reality quantum mechanics and relativity stop working if you use them together, like for black holes or the big bang, but nobody cares about that so only string theorists are still working on it these 'theories' have never been disproved, so if you don't believe in them then you should pull your head out of your ass
  23. there are loads of bums in vancouver i usually avoid them, cause if you accidentally make eye contact you have to tell them NO in a firm voice, like a puppy my brother, on the other hand, last time we went drinking, nearly got in fights with a couple, and made another one who was at least sixty start crying
