No, they only used the Half-Life engine, if it weren't for the creators of CS (Which were in no way associated with the makers of Half-Life at the time) Half-Life would have died out and lost 99% of its popularity. So yes, we can just say it's CS.

Well, I think it might not have been done on purpose. I think that when you play CS:S, it only extracts the files from the GCF that you need, in order to save space. If you just downloaded CS:S and haven't played it yet through steam, there will be no materials folder or anything, but if you go into your options menu and look at the sprays, it will create the directories and folders. So, unintentionally, it probably just never creates the directory, which is why what OMP posted probably works.

Not sure what you're asking? CS:Source is the original CS code ported onto the Half-Life 2 engine with added physics and a few gameplay changes. So for those most part it's CS with a huge graphics upgrade. Steam is releasing a beta to the CS:CZ owners which has already started preloading and will be "released" or activated on the 18th (tomorrow). There is already a cracked version of the beta out but there's a whole other thread about that. The cracked version is actually pretty cool to rage with voice because it's bugged and you can't mute, the only way to "mute" is to do voice_enable 0 but most people are too dumb to figure that out.

Well as far as I know, the fact that CZ is "cracked" I guess you'd say, has nothing to do with CS:S running. The way Steam detects if you have CZ is just by checking your My Games List after all, so it can't tell the difference between a version you got the right way or a version you got the wrong way. So yeah, I'm sure you'll beable to play CS:S beta the same way as everyone else does. No need for cracks or any of that BS.

Yeah, Chink, that works. Actually, you don't even have to put in a legit credit card number, you can put in a fake one. All you have to do is put in the # and crash steam right after it starts processing, and it will put it in your "My Games" list forever. I'll try to get more detailed instructions as there might be more to it then that, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I know there's something you have to do involving a shortcut to actually get it to run. Also, I know a few people that have done this, and you can in fact preload the CS:S beta by getting a copy like this. I'm assuming you can play it on the 18th as well...
