You can't get banned for modifying materials, you moron. Vac only crnks you if you mess around with memory applications.

There's a fun glitch that can lag players and crash servers. On certain walls/corners and such you can take your flaregun, push up against the wall, look perpendicular to it (or turn to the left so that your flaregun is closer to the wall), aim a bit low, and fire, embedding the flare projectile into the wall for the remainder of that round. You can create decorative although horribly laggy patterns if you do it enough times. Someone managed to crash a server by spamming it all round during a pretty long and stale game, but the fps lag succeeds in pissing off a lot of people. This doesn't work on all walls though. For example there's certain walls in spawns that you can't get close enough to, or rocky walls that are irregular. Your model can't get close enough to those to glitch the projectile into the wall. Tried it yesterday, worked fine.
