Usually the effects of mixing RAM will vary from board to board but in general its not a good idea to try. The computer wants the RAM at the slowest settings of the slowest part for timings, speed, etc.

Regarding ratings, it seems that there is some industry conspiracy to never give Apple products (which all suck) shitty ratings. Ipods are built to prevent users from doing certain things with them and that alone makes them total crap. Just look at some computer site that dares to put any Apple laptop in a "Multimedia Laptop" lineup and then dares to give them an above zero rating. Just look at the specs for the damn things. The first computers that I ever used were Macs and they sucked then as they suck now. I converted to PCs as soon as I realized how shitty Macs are and I'll never go back. Mac OS hasn't been in any tangible way more user friendly than Windows since Win98 at the latest. One must keep in mind the concept called the "plecebo effect" when one listens to people glorify the Mac GUI. People who buy the crappy things say they love them becuase they don't want to admit to themselves how stupid they were for paying so much for so little. Ragarding iPods, the things break as fast as possible unless you baby the worthless junkheaps. I have to waste hordes of my time fixing the Macs of all of the stupid suckers that I know.

But anyways, the 6600GT and X700 are indeed similar though the more advanced (or rather more pricy) versions of the X700 such as the X700 Pro and XT (never seen an X700 XT though) perform somewhat better than the 6600GT. Also, one must keep in mind the fact that nVidia's drivers are somewhat better for Windows and a lot better for Linux - yes I know that BF2 and almost all other fun games don't run on Linux - though the quality of ATI's drivers has increased substantially over time.

Tom's hardware is indeed quite useful. I also go to X-Bit Labs and AnandTech for the same reasons that I go to Tom's. The aformentioned three sites do almost identical things in many circumstances such as performing benchmarks, product reviews, and providing tech news and info on future products from the major computer companies.

I hear that the cheaper versions of the GeForce 7 series and ATI's new lines are comming out really soon. Of course, one must factor in the fact that I am a living breathing Osborne Effect when considering my opinions on such an issue. I always put my purchases off - at least regarding computing and epectronics products - so that I can get the new lines. And Celerons really do suck. AMD is much better for gaming and has been for a while.
