ood choice since my mobo is the exact same one from newegg since i didn't need the sli version and the video card is great too and cheap. but newegg had thier 7900's on auto notify and i haven't checked whether they still are so you might want to try ohter sites like tigerdirect.

yeah i would always suggest that you go with nvidia unless you are not planning to run sli because ATi's crossfire is still worse but the way Ati has setup thier video entertainment with Avivo, it is a lot better than Nvidia's if you watch movies instead of palying games. also the 7900 is waht you probabaly want because this card is not only smaller then the 7800 and faster including the core clock and transistors, but also is a better price than mot Ati cards that are new including the x1800 and also has a lifetime warranty and the abiltiy to trade this card in with another top of the line card from evga when nvidia releases a new one.

what i would do is d/l a copy of norton ghost and copy your hd to another hd or make a backup image of it so you can return it to normal if anyhting fucks up. try it, as long as you have a backup your fine.

not worth it compared to an amd x2 even if youre looking for power and cooling needs. the core duo is clocked lower than the other pentium d's because it was made mostly for laptops (centrino duo) but also because intel has been having trouble keeping thier power and cooling wattages down (Pentium EE 955 80 C at full load!!!) if you go with the x2 then you will not only get a faster proc similar to intel's conroe coming out in the summer since conroe will have 4 clock pipelines in which to execute bits of data rather than 3 and the higher clock speed, but the x2 also does not give out that much more power then the core duo and doens't need that much cooling as you would think sicne I own a 4200+ and i really only have the cooling of 3 case fans, the power supply fans, and the heatsink. the cooling the x2 exerts also can be seen as minimal compared to intel becuase of its archiutecture on the 90 nm compared to intel's 65 nm arch in which it needs because of intel's higher clock speed. in turn, i overall like amd also not only for the clock speed but also for its hypertransport support that is clocked at 1ghz compared to intel's core duo of 667 mhz. lastly, if youre looking for a better deal then i would go with the amd because youre getting a better proc for your buck but if yorue still an intel buff then i would wait for conroe to come out later on in the summer before you build your new system because the core duo is still on the old netburst architecture.
