About it being in gmod, since VAC doesnt ban for hl2 and gmod uses hl2 and not hl2dm you can still play on the gmod vac servers. I'm VAC banend and can still play on gmod secure servers, But I turned vac off on my dedicated server anyways since it's a pile of shit.
