I read magazines mostly, but i have read some of HP Lovecrafts work recently. It amazes me that an author from almost 100 years ago is still having movies made from his writings. Dagon Re-Animator and the series Necronomicon Beyond the walls of sleep (?) The Tomb Many more, plus there are 2 that are in pre-production. Not bad for a guy that died 70 years ago.

I know Ubuntu probably wins OVERALL, but what about visuals and/or look of it? I just ordered the free 64bit and 32bit of Ubuntu and i might switch but i AM kinda spoiled when it comes to looks. I looked at a couple pics of Ubuntu and it looks very very VERY plain. So can you supe it up? I want a very standard OS that i can add-on stuff as i see fit instead of trying to strip it down. Like i've done with Vista. I run Vista fine, no lag or errors really. But if i can use an OS that uses half the resources that Vista does and still make it look as good then im down. So everyone PRAISES Ubuntu. Let me know why i should use it, and the performance increases, easier usage, less demanding OS things that everyone talks about.

LOL @ this becoming a "My favorite system is better than yours" thread. PS3 seems great but the fact that Xbox is half the price with probably more games and an HD capabilty instead of Blue Ray (since Blue Ray is so expensive and no-one wants to pay that much for a dvd player and the fact that Blue is probably going to lose the "war" making BR's useless) The 360 owns the PS3. Sorry back on topic: I had a 360 for a week and sold it because i was very very unimpressed with it. And dont you have to pay for Live? I cant pay money for something i can get for free. Id say go with XP on any laptop really. Like i said it just uses up way to much. Unless you disable pretty much everything which will just make it look like 98. When i used Xp, i had maybe 30 processes when i first started up, but with Vista Ult. i have about 50 on startup. It just uses to many resources. Even if you're using it to surf the web then its using up probably 75% of your computer just running all its shit.

Pci express is for Video cards. All the other PCI slots are for add on cards. Sound cards, extra usb ports, ethernet cards etc... (Well there are old video cards that used PCI slots but they're way outdated) The media card slot is for the little flash cards in your digital camera and such. Same with smart cards. They do the same thing essentialy just different formats. (correct me if im wrong which i probably am) Most people will say go with XP because of all its flaws. Plus the fact that is just HUGE and takes a lot of shit to run it. Ram, CPU etc... There are options to downgrade to XP through Microsoft so if you get it with Vista just call them and they send you a disc or something i guess. Im not big on laptops but that seems like a good one. Not sure about the pricing though, but like i said im not savvy on laptops mainly just desktops.

Whats the cpu? You'll have to match the skt type i.e. 939, am2 etc... Ill look around when you tell me.

Well upgrading to a new MB for a PC that is 5 years old doesnt make a whole lot of sense. So he could upgrade to a better MB but then it would probably be a different skt. Then the Ram would have to be exactly the same also (ddr300, ddr500 etc..) And im sure his PSU is no more 400w and its 5 years old.

But then he'd have to get different ram, cpu, and a better PSU, so that everything is compatible.

Everybody keeps recommending PCIx cards when he said in his first post he wants AGP. Theres really nothing good you can do. Since your PC is 5 years old a high end VGA or one with DX10 would just bottleneck your system. Probably better off saving 300 or 400 more bucks and getting a newer lower end system with PCIx.

Acer is a decent brand, my sister has 2 laptops from them and i just bought a 22" LCD and it has 1 dead pixel but other than that it works great.

It kinda sucks though. TF2 is probably the best game of 2007 and with all the letdowns Game companies give us then it will probably be the best in 2008 also. So ruining a truly fun game sucks for those who get pissed but TF2 is fun no matter whats going on.
