Buy a switch because unlike a router you get full input/output on each port and try to get a layer 4 switch if you have the cash but a layer 3 or 2 will work just fine, and by layers i mean the OSI model, but it sounds like whatever you are downloading is overloading your router because routers find the best path for each packet and it can make it go slower.
