A simple ban from XBL is more like it. You couldn't use a thumb drive, you would need to edit the game and reburn the disc (obviously you would need a flashed 360), and yet still there are protective measures in place such as hashes, signatures and whatnot. You would go through quite a bit of 360's for the research, so I doubt anyone is willing to make such investment. Besides, with XBL people can send in complaints about you very easily, with the press of 3 buttons. One of the options is "modified console or modified game data." So regardless if its undetected, you wouldn't last long before people would start reporting you. So in my opinion, Wav did the right thing.
