Evolution or Religion ?
Okay, rather than arguing back and forth, I'm going to try and lay this thread to rest. Evolution is right. 100% of scientists agree (with maybe a few discredited exceptions) It might not have happened exactly the way we believe it does today, but it happens. That's the important part. We do not know how life started. Life could have come from random chemicals intermixing in the primordeal ooze, or it could have come off an asteroid. We don't know at this point, but the theories are much more sound than a creator god, but you can choose to believe whatever you want to believe. Now, to the more important issue of the bible itself. The overall message in the bible is conflicted. It ranges from socialist tract to facist manifesto. The bible's message has been re-interpreted over generations, each generation changing the bible's interpretation. What people fail to see is that the bible is nothing but a reflection of the reader. We see in the bible (and other holy books), exactly what we want to see; what we expect. The message read out of the bible is a reflection of the world it's being read in. So if you live in urban North America, or Western Europe, and you happen to be middle-class, you might be more inclined to help the needy, rather than to be ultra-dogmatic about the christian faith. However, if you're born into considerable wealth, you might see this wealth as a gift from god, and go about investing the wealth as you so choose (e.g. as in the Parable of the Talents, Master punishes a servant for not investing his wealth), while not helping the poor at all, and those infidels be damned if they're going to take your wealth away from you. People use the bible as a cart-blanche to justify their actions. Some people read that only certain ecclestial laws are proper, and live their lives righteously (according to today's secular moral code), this is not because of the bible, this is because they were already willing to live within the moral confines of today's society. The bible is nothing but a reflection of the man (or woman) who reads it.

Evolution or Religion ?
Wait, this still doesn't answer my argument, you just side-stepped. Are you saying that the ten commandments aren't supposed to be followed by everyone, only a select priestly class? Wait, so are you telling me that instead of making alot more of the earth's land naturally airable to crops, so that peoples in prehistory, antiquity, the middle ages, and even today still starve, while others live in luxury? It is only with the onset of globilization where we have been truly able to move resources around on a massive, massive scale; it is only now that we could cure world hunger if we tried. What about the past 119 centuries of agriculture where certian places like Egypt have lived in a floodplain, a haven for farmers, whereas others have lived in hugely harsh conditions, trying to farm the barren soil, with famine all around? I can easily imagine a world where diseases and sudfering aren't a consequence of life. Perhaps I should clarify. I mean diseases like Malaria, and AIDS, things that aren't a consequence of aging. I'm not saying we should be immortal (becuase that's what you seem to imply, as if disease is the only cause of death). People will still die, but they will live longer, and happier lives if disease disappears. Well obviously, but we debate for da lulz.

Evolution or Religion ?
Refute to (1): It doesn't matter if you or anyone else doesn't tell us the plan, if only the plan made some sort of sense, which it doesn't. Needless wars, unending pain. An altruistic god wouldn't let this happen, period. Not on this scale. Disease, famine... what kind of god would leave his people to die of starvation? What kind of god would let mutated bacteria and viruses kill his people by the thousands, giving some slow and painful deaths? A malevolent god, no way around it. Free will does not enter into the equation; we do not control the course of bacterial and viral mutations, why should it happen the way it does? There's no good grand plan that can account for this much suffering. Refute to (2): The question was, "Why do things happen?". He said god wasn't the answer, hence making him an Atheist. There's no problem here. Refute to (3): I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me. You shall have no other gods before me. The first fucking commandment. Shortened to: "Don't worship anyone else, or face my wrath." Your argument that the bible is also flawed, if god DOES exist, why would he let his word be mutilated to the point where it means what he doesn't? Refute to (4): Again, see things that humanity is not responsible for, and have no real reason to be there. AIDS? Cancer? Cholera? Malaria? Is there any reason for these? We haven't engineered them, and they certainly don't help anyone. You say that the vast majority are caused by human free will, which is only about half-true, I'd say it's actually in the minority. If we didn't have situations of such scarcity in some places, and such wealth in others (natural wealth, you understand), things wouldn't be the way they were. If god had distributed things equitably, things would be a hell of alot easier, for everyone and everythign on the planet. Refute to (5): You are correct, Science and Religion can coexist. HOWEVER, Einstein never tried to disprove god. He never even believed in a personal god, he didn't think of god as anything close to the christian god, he didn't believe in divine jugement after death, or anything of the sort. You'll also note that he's famous for saying "God does not play dice.", while trying to refute Quantum Mechanics. And he was wrong. 'God' does indeed play dice, and all the time. He was refering to god as the general order behind the universe. Still, you do make a good point. Science and religion can co-exist, easily, and conservative evangelicals are idiots.

Evolution or Religion ?
Dagoat wasn't actually talking about ID, he was being a bitch. ID implies that god took an active role in the creation and evolution of life, wheras some of you seem to believe that it simply means that a god created a universe (Whichever god that might be, there are thousands) Regardless. Evolution is proven. It's a fact. I point you to http://www.talkorigins.org/ , which'll settle all your qualms related to EVOLUTION. As stated by some other people before, evolution deals with the progress of life, not it's creation. We don't know just exactly how life was created, but for those of you who said that it's impossible to form organic compounds from inorganic things, it was done in 1953. That aside, it's still riduclous to assume any god exists, without any proof. You can make the arugment that there's no proof to disprove any god, which is true, if you assume that god runs the world like a laissez-faire capitalist economy. (E.G. Evil, so why in hell would you worship him?) You could also make the argument that the universe is so complex that god had to have created it, but then if you step back you realize you look like a retard, because it's ridiculous to assume that the universe, and everything natural, complicated as they are were created by an entity even more goddamn complicated than the universe itself. Therefor, god does not exist.

[HELP] How to make passwords on maps
Just encrypt your files, very, very simply. No one's going to bother to crack them. Or just rename the extensions. Chances are no one's going to care enough to open them.

What do you think is beyond the galaxy?
You know, if the question had been pertaining to the universe, the answers might've been more intelligent... but I doubt it. If you're going to subtly hint that other people being idiots, at least do it with proper grammar and punctuation.
