That's what I started using, it's actually a great little program. But then I became an intern for a company, and everyone there ran Red Hat, so they got me into Linux 'n such. Started using jEdit, which is alright except for the annoying keyboard lag from time to time (it is java). Once you give emacs a couple days and customize everything the way you like it though, you really can't compare it to anything else.

Usenet has its fair share of porn; there's about a million alt.* groups dedicated to the uhh... discussion. Also, most peer to peer networks have plenty of free material. Just be wary of anything that's not in MPEG.
