because Valve didn't start doing global bans until they instituted VAC, which is a required addon to be an "authorised" server. Since the global bans only take place if a cheat is detected by a program designed by the company liscensing the software, they can get away with denying access...though even in that case, I'd like to see what a court actually thought of it.

loopback, from what you're saying, it looks like you're doing it basically right you're looking for rcon_password though...and you gotta catch the packet it updates the field in...which only happens when someone logs into rcon, or disconnects from it.

Not entirely true. Just like you can't contractually obligate sex in a marriage contract, you can't enforce something that's already got legal precedence making the TOA illegal. All that Blizz does is say "you can't use our servers if WE catch you cheating"...since their servers are the only place to play, this works. UT2K4 uses privately supported servers, and what they are saying, basically, is that if some random server owner reports you for "cheating", they can decide to globally ban you from using the game you paid for. They aren't requiring any specific qualifications from the reporting agencies, they aren't requiring that they check up, and have undeniable proof of "modified game play"...and they even SUPPORT certain modifications and personalizations of the game setup individuals use. By supporting certain modifications, they are obligating themselves to allow users to modify the game. I'd like to see them make a distinction to a 60 year old judge between the "alternative models" and such they allow and blatant cheats, in a courtroom setting. And with the amount in rewards, punitive damages, and such that could potentially be awarded, it would be well worth some cheater's time to contest the TOA and any ban that results from anything other than a detection setup made by the game designers, and required as part of gameplay. Also...read up on what makes a contract legal in the USA ( http://www.findlaw.com might help you here). Most gamers install the game themselves...and you'll find that most gamers CAN'T legally enter any sort of binding contract. Even if you check "yes I'm over 18", if you lied, and are under 18, you can't be held to a contract legally, not AS a contract...plus EULA and TOA are really fuzzy areas. legally...there's been plenty of court action proving that they are NOT legally contracts, nor are they enforceable as such.

Blocky's right...and no, they wouldn't be able to ban by MAC address...for mutliple reasons. The guy who posted that part was just a freaking moron...all they can effectively do is ban particular keys. the log will only contain rcon password if someone logs in to rcon (changing the status, which makes it nesseccary for the logfile to change that line), otherwise, it will usually not transmit that info, or if it does, it shows nothing but "rcon_password <password>", depending on the server settings. Also, doesn't matter what filters are on...if you run it with NO filters, you simply have more packets you have to go through...it's p[ossible to filter it so you only capture packets from a particular source, or only store packets conatining a particular line (like "rcon"), but it's a pain in the ass to set up the filters properly. For someone who doesn't know exactly what they're doing, it's probably easier, and more effective, to run it unfilterewd, and just read every damned packet from the server until they find the right one(s).

by knowing what the fuck you are doing, and what you're looking for. that packet was giving you some of the motd information...which means it was one of the first few packets related to your joining the server.

ethereal is a packet monitoring program...it caputres and stores all packets between your comp and whatever...so if you read the packets that came from the server IP, eventually you'll find one containing changes in logfile. THAT is where rcon_password is stored. Understand what it is you're doing, and the rest becomes quite easy.

LetDown, I can give you a passel of tricks. Visit the lot three or four times...the first two times, ask the salesman when they get paid, as if ou're considering applying there...different stores do it at different times, and the "month" for a delaership is based on that. Basically, if a store pays on the 5th and 20th, with the "draw" check on the fifth, the best time to buy from them is going to be the middle of the month...if the first check is the "real" check, and the "draw" is the second check, then end of the month is when you want to buy from them. Also..dealerships make extra money off the "points" they charge in a loan (meaning the bank buys the loan at 7% and the contract charges the buyer 13%...the bank and they dealership split the profits on the extra interest)...so you can screw the shit out of a dealership by arranging your financing ahead of time, then going in and NOT telling them you've done so. Then, when actually negotiating the price of the car, you act like you're focused on PAYMENT...keep telling them the payment is too high until they drop the base proce of the car lower than you expected (they expect to make the losst front end profit back in the contract)...sign the deal when the base proce is low enough, and wait until you're in the "Business office" to tell them you've got your own financing...sign the contract they set up for you, but write "without prejuduice" under your sig, which guarentees you the right to come in with a bank check for the price of the car, and "buy the contract" back.

I can't argue with that, pr0n. But, the thing that drives me nuts is that, in this country at least, anyone actually willing to work for their money literally cannot starve. OK, you can lose your house, if you had a mortgage that REQUIRED you keep an income over $60K a year to meet it. But I haven't seen anyone making under $7.25 an hour in two years, including McDonald's employees. An adult workign full time at that "minimum" wage brings in $14.5K a year before taxes...even for a single adult, THAT qualifies for assisted housing and food stamps, but it's not NEEDED for a single adult making that "little" money. And that's at minimum wage...I had plumbers and carpenters living in the same neighborhood I was in when I was in sales, so I KNOW anyone who works any "skilled" job can make good money. They don't like heavy physical work? Well shit, man, anyone who actually works at selling cars or real estate is gonna make at least $50K a year, it doesn't require a college education, heavy lifting, or any skill other than looking nice enough to be trustworthy while you're talking out your ass, to distract them from anything but their desire to own something "new". I honestly think anyone who NEEDS state assistance for any reason other than totally debilitating disease in THIS country really is either inexcusably lazy, dangerously stupid, or REALLY needs to reorder their priorities...I mean what SHOULD be a worse hit to your pride...not being able to buy a big screen TV on your earnable salary, or having to walk into a government office, and not only admit, but put onto paper record, that you're so worthless that you can get a better lifestyle from state money paid to those who "can't" than you can earn yourself?

Your example of Gates...he's WORTH about 140 billion dollars...his liquid assets are about .04% of that (about 6 million in cash or negotiables)... the rest is in real estate and various investments, most of which goes back into MS...when he makes these huge "contributions" it's a signifigant financial move, as he dumps literally a billion dollars worth of stock onto the market in order to free the cash...which means there's a billion dollars worth of shares in whatever companies suddenly available for purchase...which, believe it or not, actually hurts the stocks for the period they're being traded. Basic law of supply and demand...take any HS level econ class for explanation. Guess what that money is DOING while it's "sitting there" in stocks? Invested money is what's used to further any corporate research, development, product development, so on, and so forth...that's WHY companies sell stock to begin with, to raise the money to "do the next thing"...they pay salaries out of it, space rent, mortgages, and all the expenses incurred by a project that hasn't gotten to the "fiscally viable" stage yet. Yes, 1% of the population "controls" 90% of the cash flow...how many people actually have the understanding and abilities it takes to run a multi-billion-dollar-a-year company? Not many. Most people have a hard enought time keeping their own HOUSEHOLD out of debt, and operating in the black...would you really want to work for a company run by the guy who works next to you at your job, bitching about how the "big boys" are fucking shit up, while he's struggling to raise two kids and a wife, pay alimony to two ex-wives, and child support for his 2 kids by those ex-wives, and is trying to stave off filing bankruptcy for the third time in 20 years? How good a job do you think that genius is actually going to do at keeping the company running profitably, keeping products competative, jobs intact, wages fair, and benefits high? Or do you think, like I do, that it's far more likely he'd pay himself a rediculous wage, so he could aford all the mistakes he's been making anyhow, make the same sort of mistakes in a bigger scale, and run the company into the ground the same way he's run his personal finances? To use myself as an example...I busted ass for 8 years in car sales, and F&I ("business manager" for a dealership), and lived at about a quarter of my actual income, because that's what I could COUNT on making in a bad month. Every guy I worked with BUT myself, and two others lived as high on the hog as they could, and were hurting when they had two bad months running...hurting to the point of repossessed cars, and such. This is typical of the business. After 8 years of doing this, I not only had been promoted above 90% of the guys I'd worked with, but had enough cash invested where it was making me more money that I was able to quit working 70+ hour weeks (on commission, you gotta be there to make money), and go back to school, which is what I chose to do. One of the others who was doing basically the same thing I did, moneywise...but he stayed in the car biz...two years later, I'm starting to dip into my capital to support my lifestyle, and he just bought a 2 million dollar dealership, which will pay him a GM salary (about $300K a year base, in that size store), plus standard bonuses (about a half million a year, in a good year, in that size store), plus it will pay him all the profit he can make...but before profit, he has to pay house mortgage, store mortgage, lot fees, shop costs (the repair shop is a losing deal in almost any dealership), non-factory advertising, and all the other costs it will take for him to keep his current customer base, and build a new one. What I'm saying here is: HE has a net worth well over the 10 million dollar mark, on paper, now...but he's lucky if he can actually see more than a third of a million a year of it, without losing some of the "net" in that 10 million dollar worth, on the other hand, I took my money and ran, and could actually SPEND my net worth within four days if I wanted...but I'd then be broke, and have to spend another 8 years busting ass to get back to where I am...in the meantime, I invest my money so other companies can put it to work, who pay me for the privledge...it's not "sitting aroudn doing nothing" EVER...only the small man puts his money in a sock under the matress where it actually isn't put to work making more money.

BUT. for the money we spent, it created some billion dollars in military contracts that were carried out INSIDE the US...which means jobs and money for citizens...mostly blue collar citizens who work in the factories that got those contracts (military contracts MAY have huge money involved, and much of that money, comparitavely goes to white collar executives...but the executives make up a SMALL percentage of the company getting the contract...so what if the CEO of the company who gets the contract gets $300K a year+? There are 1500+ blue collar jobs created or maintained by those contracts...which means 1500+ salaries of $45K a year being paid as a result of the contract...1500X$45K= six million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars going to the "working stiffs"...who really wins here?) I don't mean to seem like I'm a supporter of the republican party, since I'm not (firmly independant), but I honestly think that any thinking man will avoid putting the current crop of Dems in office like the plague. OK, so the republicans give tax breaks to big companies and to rich men...and they promote legislation that is directly beneficial to the bigger companies. What's wrong with that? Let's think about this...if the government makes it more economically viable or beneficial to the rich bastards who run and own it, to run it in the states, with native employees, who wins? OK...take the reverse...punish the rich for being rich...punish big companies for being big, and successful...make it so they get bigger tax breaks, keep more of their income, and HIDE more of their income by moving as much of the company outside the country as possible..what happens is: the rich fuckers want to STAY rich...and get richer...so they move the company...if they guys hired to run the company refuse to do this, the rich fuckers who own stock fire the fucker, because ALL they want is for their stock to pay off...in the meantime, it's cheaper, and more profitable, for the company's "productive" areas to be situated outside the country...so we end up creating thousands of jobs for Mexicans and East Indians and such...meaning there are fewer jobs for the blue collar Americans...because they're all "outsourced". On the other hand...give a company HUGE tax incentives to build factories in this country...give them tax breaks for hiring Americans...increase government assistance to employee benefit setups...the company now has good reason to situate their new factory in Ohio instead of Mexiico City...it's slightly more expensive to do so...but they KEEP more of their income by doing so. The stockholders then encourage the CEO to make "good decisions" like situating in Ohio...which means the 2500 new jobs go to Americans, instead of Mexicans...which is 2500 more families making it without government support programs...paying taxes that support these "breaks" to the rich, which makes more and increased breaks available, which encourages more companies to keep the jobs at home, which drops unenployment rates, increases average income, drops the percentage of the "public" (meaning people working for their money, instead of taking government money) on public assistance, which perpetuates the cycle. This is what the republicans historically do...make it easier on the rich IF and only if what the rich do is beneficial to the country...they punish them for capital gains that are pure gains (my Dad, who is in the 7 figure a year income bracket, pays about $75K a year in capital gains taxes...which would be like John Q Public paying $7.50 in taxes on every $100 he earned...doesn't sound like much...BUT, if Dad's portfolio didn't consist of many "shelters" which give him breaks because he invested in US based companies and such, his taxes, without the breaks, would be 4 times what they are...which means his money would be supporting companies giving jobs to foreign nationals, instead of Americans....comparitavely, my portfolio results in me paying about $45K a year in CG taxes, because I can't AFFORD to get into the "shelters" dad uses...if I COULD, I'd be paying about $25K a year at my current income, and less, as my portfolio grew...but I'd also be creating US jobs) On the OTHER hand, what the democrats historically do is to make it more profitable to move the jobs outside the country, punish the rich for BEING rich, not for how they do it, then punish all of us, trying to use givernmental support and raises in minimum wage to increase the national average income...and all of this money then comes from you and me, in increased taxes and higher punitive "tarrifs" on imported goods, so the few things still produced HERE can compete...meanwhile the number of people recieving government money increases, as does the amount they recieve. Now, which would YOU rather have happening? Rich fuckers getting richer faster, while jobs you can get become more common, and at decent wages, or rich fuckers becoming richer slightly slower while jobs here become harder and harder to find, higher and higher educational credentials become neccessary to compete for jobs, and more and more people who "aren't qualified" to work in country go on public assistance of some sort or another, while we hemmorhage US dollars into a foreign market because that's where the fucking factory producing the stuff you HAVE to have was located, for financial reasons?

It's a VERY stupid B rated sci fi movie with Rowdy Roddy Piper in it. Basically, aliens have taken over the world, disguised as humans, but by wearing special sunglasses, you can see through their disguises, and also see all the subliminal advertizing they do to encourage humans to stay dumb and to breed (apparantly they're "farming" us) Could have been a relatively cool movie with a slightly re-worked bit of plot mechanics and a real actor or two, but they HAD to give it to a wrestler...

You download it, run the installer, click the new icon on your desktop, set your password, set the target IP, and click "run", and it sends the "server" to the target IP, installs itself on there, opens a connection, and asks you for your password. You type in the password, and are connected...now you have remote access to the victim IP, through a little window that's basically a minature desktop, except it shows the target computer desktop.
