Yes...unfortunately, during our War for Independance, France was not the same country it is today...it was still a monarchy...they became a republic after we did. Imperial monarchies do tend to have decent armies (even if half the army is made up of merc foreigners, like France's was)...they NEED them, in order to pacify any uprisings in their colonies <grin> None of this changes the fact that it wasn't the French military, per se, that was any credit to their country during WWI OR WWII...both times, the French government was ineffectual, at best, and the troops who remained loyal to the government were thrown away uselessly, or surrendered with the rest of the government (sometimes both), depending on which war you refer to. It was the troops who formed into the underground, the resistance, and various other geurilla organizations, that were so much help in both world wars. I will give the French one thing, though....their colonial experiences in Indonesia and Africa gave the veteran troops a strong grounding in and respect for some down and dirty, nasty ass, geurilla tactics...Had their government not hamstrung their own military in both world wars, their "official" conduct could have been far more valuable than is currently admitted...and they could claim credit for such behavior, rather than having small groups of loosely organized "resistance fighters" credited with some of the bravery and ability that was demonstrated.

Pain in the motherfuckin' ass!
Got most of my new parts tonight, spent all evening installing them and transferring shit from old HD's to new, and reinstalling prgrams and shit... sometime in the next few days, I've got to reconfigure all the net crap, and start testing for overclockability... on the plus side, sitting stock, I've got a 2800 barton chip (was expecting the 3200) running 333FSB (166 DD), a gig and a half of PC3200 (clocked down to 333 right now...grr), and a new 120 gig drive (only ATA133, damnit...I need to get my hands on SATS drives...the mobo supports two SATA's, thank God)...and after all that's done, I gotta wait to recieve my new graffy card... anyone worked an OC job on ony of the barton chips yet? if so will they withstand being pushed to 200 MHz base frequency if you drop multiplier down to 11, on an air cooled setup (which effectively turns it into a stock 3200)?

LOL...read up on the case of mad cow disease...it was found here in Washington State, and seems to have come from a cow who was purchased from a B.C. rancher...where it had been in the same herd as the one found to have caused the little spate of mad cow diseased cattle in British Columbia, CAN, this past summer.... Translation...the first US case of mad cow disease occurred because we engage in trade with canuck ranchers, who brought it THERE first! And we found out it was here, and where it came from faster than you moosefuckers, too! Heh.

cs stops responding..
just a wild guess, but going to 2.4 from 1.8 is a 30% overclock...this tends to burn out traces and fliflops within the proc, if you're not running WC or otherwise protecting the proc more havily than simple increased airflow can do. At least with P4 & Athlon procs...once you revert, it doesn't help, because the damage has been done...so your I/O errors *could* be because you fuxed your chip, and it can't use needed internal traces... If I'm right, and this is the cause, all I can say is "you're fucked" If I'm wrong, and this isn't the issue, then it's a software problem, in which case, at absolute worst, you just use the install disk to repair windows (or reinstall right over the old one), and don't even lose any data, then reinstall HL once more, and see if that corrects the issue. (Tjis is the "quick and easy fixall solution", so you don't have to ID the software problem to correct it, of course) I'm betting on the damaged chip, though, since most overclocking "pros" and forums run by overclockers will usually tell you that without massive cooling, a 10%-15% overclock is the highest "safe" ratio for "absolute" speed on an OC'd proc (combined frequency and multiplier).

kinda hard to "get thermite"...unless you already know how to make it...and it don't light with the flick of a Bic, dude... not that it's that hard to get the makings for thermite, or to make flash powder to ignite it...but still, that one's a bit in-depth for most vandals <grin>

yum...I wouldn't mind having a name to look up more of that, myself.

Just Got my Revenge!!
LOL Panis...not at all...but back in the late 80's, the back parking lot crowd (gearheads, punk rockers, skaters, metalheads, and "new wave" twits) were kind of all one big clique, the jocks and preps were the other "big faction". They were kind of regarded as "natural enemies". Even if you played soccer, were in T&F, and wrestled, or were in AP classes with the overachiever preps, and made fun of the AV club and chess club, the "plastic people" clique (what we called them...dunno what they called themselves) wouldn't give you the time of day off the field, or outside of class, if you had unnaturally colored hair, long hair, a "wierd" haircut, or wore combat boots or engineer's boots as part of daily clothing...I usually fell into at least three of four of the last "disqualifiers". The geeks, nerds, and other losers generally either hid on the sidelines, or tried to fit into one of the little "cliques within cliques"...I was one of the punk rock/skater idiots, doing my best to look cool in a motorcycle jacket, doc martins, OD cargo pants, and the "color of the week" spiky hairdo...lol Gods, those were the fucking days...

deer vs plane propeller
Wasn't doubting you, dude...I'd guesstimate that the impact force of a loaded semi is close to 100 times that of an unloaded 3/4 ton pickup...and I KNOW the damned things are one hell of a lot tougher, when it comes to impact damage...I've seen the results of semi/pickup collisions...the Ford looks like a piece of industrial abstract sculpture, and the semi needs a dent-puller and touch up paint, usually :)

Just Got my Revenge!!
ROFL Veil...nope...this is one an older "hooligan" taught me clear back in middle school...I used it for years to "even scores" with neighborhood grumps, bitches, and eventually with the preppies and jocks from my high school...which is where I learned it doesn't work on painted auto body parts :)

Bush in 30 seconds
How about the 143 cases since the Patriot Act has been in effect where it was used as an excuse to make raids on, or infiltrate suspected hackers' homes or computer networks, despite the fact that they clearly knew that their "target" was not affiliated with any know terrorist organization, was not muslim, was a lifelong US citizen, in most cases without any prior criminal record...and where the Patriot Act was used specifically because the legal theories used and actions committed against the suspects were illegal under all previous laws? Personally, I'd call anything that can be bent to allow search and seizure without probable cause, wiretapping and other tech forms of monitoring or eavesdropping, and even blatant hacking of private computers by a government official who otherwise would have NO legal or justifiable ability to do these things as HIGHLY restrictve of my rights...Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't one of the constitutional amendments specific in regarding what constitutes proper grounds for search and seizure of property, and another one regarding what constitutes legal premise for imprisonment? The Patriot Act is, and has been, being used to get around these rights...and it's been being used against private citizens who are clearly not party to any of the things it was intended to help protect us against. However...aside from abuses it's currently suffering, I DO support the Patriot Act, in theory anyhow, and recognize the fact that certain rights MUST be somewhat curtailed or abridged for the safety of the mass populace (for instance, I happily concede that the second amendment wasn't intended to protect the private citizen's right to keep a nuclear warhead, a loaded Abrahms tank, or even a full auto AK-47 in his personal arsenal, without SOME restrictive liscensing or permissions from the government...it was strictly intended to let us keep hunting/protection weapons in our houses and on our persons)

One sick Jap
puts a whole new light on "French Food" and "Japanese take-out dining" hey...as long as he was only killing Frenchies, why should we be interested in punishing him? I thought he was doing the western world a service trying to cut down on the French population in a novel manner.

raw shrimp in the gutters is better...when it rots, some acid it secrets bonds with metal...you can't get rid of the stench unless you completely replace the portions of metal affected. P.S. this works with car hubcaps and body parts, too...just not quite as easy to set up (can't just lay the shrimp on a part of the car that's painted...gotta find a way to hold a bunch of raw shrimp up against parts of the undercarriage, or other raw metal spots)

deer vs plane propeller
kinda what I was saying, truckwise, NWA...I hit one on I-15 at freeway speeds in a 3/4 ton pickup once....ruined the bumper, radiator, headlight, and grill...but not so badly I couldn't drive another 30 or so miles first...the deer was punted about 200-250 feet into the brush alongside the freeway.

did it take you this long to get back and post your response? Jesus, dude, get the fuck off AOL and that ghetto ass connection! LMAO- deer vs plane propeller
dunno...but how far you think a 400 pound prop doing 30,000+ rpms is gonna toss a 150 pound max deer, if it catches it running across the runway? Seeing as a deer hit by a truck sometimes gets tossed a couple hundred feet, I got no problem believing a propeller at takeoff speeds could slice and dice a deer unfortunate enough to run across the runway at the wrong time, and then slap the remains a hundred yards or so to one side :)- Bush in 30 seconds
ty SX...that's who I was thinking of, alright.- Anyone in college?
depends...getting into game dev with a "big house" like EA or Blizzard is a bitch...and the pay often sucks compared to the work. But most of the developers who make good money do it the same way musicians do...they work at jobs the fucking hate, until they, and a group of "garage" buddies, manage to put together a game of their own that catches they eye of a big house who buys and produces it, or they self-produce a couple games that do moderatly well for independants, and they get bought out or supported by a bigger developer. Any way you go about it, game dev carreer pathing is a tough row to hoe. - PWNT.
