If VAC detects a cheat (whether the user knows it's there or not), it would mean it has succeeded in it's job. How did you come to the conclusion that it would mean it has "messed" up?

I doubt you use anything that doesn't have a linux equivalent. (The equivalent program is probably better too, as I've seen in a lot of cases.) Also, most games can be run using Cedega/WineX, so there's no need to use Windows. (Half-Life, Half-Life 2, DOD:S, CS:S, BattleField 2 etc. all run on Cegega\WineX and some games using OpenGL have a linux client (e.g. UT, Doom 3, Quake 4 (I don't really play games so I can't list many.))
