What V/G card do you have?

I'd still probably go for the ram, you'll notice more of an effect.

Get some Ram, then a video card.. try to get 512DDR.

For a fast and non-overclocking video card get the one I got ATI 256DDR PowerColor Special Ed RADEON 9200 ( http://www.powercolor.com.tw/page2/productlist.asp?id=1&sn=14&prodid=14 )

Gforce is famous for overclocking and costing too much. ATI is better, faster and cheaper.

ATI is also notorious for having buggy drivers, drivers than conflict with applications you have to run to run the game, OS, or side programs you want to have running (like teamspeak or ventrillo), and for doing stupid shit like assigning memory addresses already claimed by default sound card drivers for many of the most popular cards out there....

GeForce at least runs reliably without advanced knowledge about tweaking drivers :)

P.S. get the RAM first...unless you have 512MB or more of RAM, your OS will consume most of it just running, even if you tweakl the hell out of it to minimize consumption....stock windows XP config will eat a minimum of 78 megs of ram, just sitting dormant, once anything else starts running...and I've seen fresh stock installs of XP start demanding up to 127 megs of RAM for its own use...if you have only 128 megs, this means you have less than 64 megs available for your other apps, regardless of what else you do...that equals lag, no matter HOW you figure it.

d0wn5yndr0me']i can tell psychobud owns a nvidia card ;)

He just cant handdle the extra power... I can

dont bother buying a geforce 4

if you are going to buy a new video card make sure you get a DirectX 9 one, such as the Geforce FX (NVidia) or if you are going with Ati (better) a 9600 or 9800 pro

ram is cheap but not a supr necessity

Ya ATI is quite good, ive never had any problems with it before but ATI is kind of expensive, but as they say "all good things come at a cost". if your still thinking of going with geforece, then buy a creative video card using geforce FX graphics processor, this way you can ensure some quality
actually, I've got a 9600 Radeon in one machine, a G4 4600 in another, a radeon all-in-wonder 8200 in the third....thank god I've got VS6.0 and .Net to tweak drivers, and that ATI includes debug files in their drivers, so they open easily :)
i had a problem with my old radeon 9000, the games were slow, but ATI has developed a new drivers system called CATALYST. You download the installer for the graphics family that you have, execute it and it will automatically install the new drivers, so basically when you have an ATI card you HAVE TO install the latest drivers when they are released.
catalyst has alot of problems, mainly lack of testing. many people report that their card has freid or somtihng after the catalyst's are released. also, they do not support you in any way if this happens, warrenty doesnt cover it i belive.
where does everyone get they have to fuck with drivers with ati? i got a radeon 9500 Pro overclocked to a 9700, and i've never fucked with my drivers. I run Rage 3D Tweak, but i recommend that with every ATI card. Ati is a lot better then the geforce cards.

I like my FX5900, but really cant compare it to an ATI, as I've never owned one. I've always been an Nvidia guy. But I can say this one thing. That mother fucker sounds like a damn jet taking off on a runway! :rolleyes2

I've never had a Vcard sound like this before. God they are loud. Performance wise, its good, but for steath reasons, I think I might try the ATI. Whats the best one now?

Now deperaturing, your video card...
