July 28, 200519 yr also as for the web page verification, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/exeValidation2.aspx?familyId=b446ae53-3759-40cf-80d5-cde4bbe07999&displayLang=en if you choose the alternate way which is downloading the tool, it gives you a number and you enter it on the web page telling you if its genuine or not, what if you take a number off a computer that works and type it in there, I wonder then if it would accepct it or if i makes a database like the Windows activation.

August 1, 200519 yr I always thought that MS were gonna let even non-genuine users download crtical updates and security updates but they'd stop the less important things like; Direct X - That'd be a pain unless you get in bundled with some game or other Windows media player - oh well... I'll try not to lose any sleep :D And other things like that. That's what I read somewhere on the MS site a good while ago. If they stop all updates then I think we can safely say goodbye to the internet as we know it... 28.8K for all :D(if you're lucky and go on when 90% of the infected PC's are off/dead)

If you have a legit copy of Windows then I wouldn't worry about jack shit. Even though there are ways to get past the WGA, the updates aren't really worth downloading to be honest... Just ghey security patches so an "intruder can't compromise your system", which doesn't happen anyways... and if it does, you deserve it. The updates are more or less pointless until service pack 3 comes out.
August 4, 200519 yr You all frotgot the BEST way to get around it, sure doing that little trick above will let you get Windows Updates, but when you go to the site and try to download the latest Media Player 10, it still askes you to validate then says its illegal. Well this here will eliminate that....forever!!!!! Since most of you have already download the latest "GENUINE ADVANTAGE VALIDATION TOOL" from windows update I wont have to tell you to go download it. Now how to get around that without disabling the thing from IE. 1. Open Windows Explorer, go to c:\windows\system32 2. Locate the file LegitCheckControl.dll, right-click -> Properties 3. Select the tab "Version" and find the version of your LCC.dll (On 2005-07-28, version 1.3.254.0 was newest.) 4. Rename your LegitCheckControl.dll to e.g. LegitCheckControl.dl_ 5. Now go to here ftp://merlin.mts.com/mbj/l/1.0.132.zip and get the version before all of this crap happened 6. Copy the LegitCheckControl.dll from the folder to c:\windows\system32 7. If you dont have reshack you can get it from here i think http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker if not just search google you'll find it. 8. Launch it. Open the just copied LegitCheckControl.dll from c:\windows\system32 in ResHacker and select "Version Info"->"1"->"1033" from the tree in ResHacker. On the right side of the ResHacker-window, change the following 4 entries to match the version number you wrote down: - FILEVERSION (Line 3) - PRODUCTVERSION (Line 4) - VALUE "FileVersion" (Line 19) - VALUE "ProductVersion" (Line 20) Afterwards, click on "Compile Script" and then File->Save. Now the cracked LCC.dll should match the version number of the new original LCC.dll from Microsoft. Try Microsoft/Windows Update again and you should succeed. August 7, 200519 yr I'm not sure how the validation is done, but it said that I had the real version on my pirated corporate edition of Windows XP. I'd suggest some people try it with the corporate edition. It logically seems like it'd be a lot harder to detect a pirated Windows with the corporate version. tellz me my "corporate edition" is not legit... though it IS. So for the time being i just did the disabling thing so i dont have to fukk with calling them up and seting them straight. dual booting with xp-64, and using that mostly anyway.
