OK...all that aside...I agree with you that 30 years for minor assault while engaged in committing a felony should have been no more than a class C felony (max of 5 years), and 30+ years is total bullshit...legally, the guy should have appealed sentence, and served, at max, 11 years IF they ran consecutive max sentences...he committed three crimes, two of which were technically felonies, but both were class C (B&E is a class C felony, minor assault while engaged in a felony is a class C felony automatically, and the theft was misdemeanor burglary)..All I can say is A.) the judge should be disbarred, and B.) the guy's an idiot, and had shitty legal counsel....*I* know enough law to have been able to get it reduced to max legal terms, consecutive....a legal aid lawyer damned well should have been able to do so...and the ACLU should have had him free, and being paid restitution 20 years ago, just based on the original sentence! OMP you're not alone in having lived life in the ghetto, I spent nearly 10 years growing up in one of the worst ghettoes of Toronto. I was involved in gangs and participated in gang activities. I paid for it with my wasted youth, but in turn learned valuable lessons from my experience. The idea I grew up under was eye for an eye, if someone smacks you, smack them 10 times harder. They had the intention of harming you, return the favor. Try stealing the tv of a gang member, you'll be lucky to escape with your life. No matter how trivial the deal is, it's still a sign that they don't give a fuck about you or your property. That man that stole the TV probably though he was going to get off easy with it, he certainly did not deserve a life sentence but my argument is about paying for your actions.
