sadly my video card is shit and i wanna know what is a good card and its price because my current one is a peice of crap.
I have a 164 dollar 6600gt pci express one that runs it fine at medium 1027x102 or whatever the fuck that is one after 800x600. Of course the more the spend the better you can run it.

thank you.

i assume you are talking about 1024*768? i know all my resolutions by heart. i have a 1280*1024 res though.

rather than makign a new topic, i have only about $200 to blow and i thought i might get a new video card because my current card is a trifle obsolete.

Should I get a new card and if so can someone recommend one or,

Should I wait and earn more money?

I'd go with atleast a Geforce 6600 GT ($145.00 and up). If you can afford a few dollars more get a Geforce 6800 ($170.00 and up) and if you can afford a bit more then that, then get a Geforce 6800 GT ($269.00 and up). All 3 of these cards perform extremely well for the price and with any newer game such as BF2. I myself have a Geforce 6800 GT atm.

My only downside with these cards is Nvidia drivers. They are constantly being updated, so quite often you get a new game and it does not work till you first get the newer drivers. It's not a huge deal, just annoying as hell. I also have a ATI card in another machine of mine and it does not require nearly as many driver updates, most the time it just works.

I'm thinking of getting a ATi Radeon 9800PRO for about $140 USD should i stick with this or choose one of the above?
stay away from xfx with 6600gts, there have been serious problems with those(go look at the nvidia forums if you want proof).
i have a radeon 9800 pro only 128mb and i run everything in medium and it runs great you can get those pritty cheap now, so if your just wanting a quick fix somthing like that may be a good idea otherwise if your looking for a gfx card for the long run id follow omps advice
go with what peterson said, not only is the geforce 6600 cheap, but it also performs pretty well, as he stated if you spent a few more you can also upgrade to the 6800 series. heh peter, we have the same grahpics card =D except I think I have the overclocked one by BFG tech.
Noteable stuff

Also ati has a trade in iirc, and their warranty is real easy to use.

I just got a 6600 GT from leadtek it's a great card runs bf2 on medium at 80 fps depending on where you are, after I overclocked and it oc's well so for 178 it's a good deal.

is a ati radeon 9550 a pretty decent card? i was thinking of buying one..

its got 256 mb, seems pretty good but im not sure

Also ati has a trade in iirc, and their warranty is real easy to use.

I'm not sure if you were able to use the trade-in with that deal, but 10% off coupons like 1010 & 1000 worked.

edit: if you guys didn't get it yesterday, you are now too late. The X800 XT PE is sold out on both CDN & US sites.

a CELERON??? what do you do, use a dell? jk. i dont have a good processor but its not bad. its a Athlon XP 2600+(clocked at 2140 Mhz). My system was custom built by me. still though... why a celeron?

I hear that the cheaper versions of the GeForce 7 series and ATI's new lines are comming out really soon. Of course, one must factor in the fact that I am a living breathing Osborne Effect when considering my opinions on such an issue. I always put my purchases off - at least regarding computing and epectronics products - so that I can get the new lines.

And Celerons really do suck. AMD is much better for gaming and has been for a while.

dont forget the ram shit 512mb is shit 1 gig is betetr 1,5 gig is smooth liek hell

and iff yuo have the money buy one from the 7 series nvidea not bmw :)
