Posted August 17, 200519 yr Ok here are some tips for sig making newbs! Everyone can randomly brush and slap a render on it and be e-tough but it looks ugly as fuck and you're not cool if you make 10000 sigs and make them all equally crappy. So here are some tips. 1. PUT CARE IN YOUR SIG! Saying that you made 10 layers of brushing doesn't make it neccesarly look pretty nor does it give your sig depth. Rather make 1 layer of brushing AND PUT CARE IN IT! Use more brushes work the edges first use small parts of your brushes etc. Instead of making 10 layers of brushing make one layer, go to edit>adjustments> auto levels and see the result! Then duplicate the layer and put it on hard light. I bet this looks tons of times better than 10 layers of brushing. 2. IF YOU PUT A RENDER IN YOUR SIG TRY TO ACTUALLY MAKE IT MATCH WITH YOUR BRUSHING! I see it tons of times ppl just slap a render on say with a reddish look and the background is blue! This doesn't match! I'm not saying that colours have to look exactly the same as the render but it would be nice if they actually looked good together! For example duplicate your render, gaussian blur it and put the layer on hard light and spread it over your sig... This makes the background get the same colour of the render. This doesn't neccesarily look nice but its a step in the right direction. 3. MAKE YOUR RENDER ACTUALLY LOOK GOOD! Okay you may have tried to make your background match your render but does the render look good? Most of the times NO! Try duplicating your render and putting it on hard ligt, try adding a bit more contrast and levels, renders on most sigs are far too random and look ugly. 4. GET YOUR OWN STYLE! I've seen this guy saying it tons of times... and i keep forgetting his name so if you read this thread post your name and i'll put it in here. DON'T THINK THAT IF YOU CAN FOLLOW A TUTORIAL PERFECTLY AND THE OUTCOME IS NICE YOU ARE COOL! BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT! Try doing things yourself! Experiment ad other features! Being a copycat doesn't make you cool! aight hope this helped newbies.

August 18, 200519 yr On the subject of blurring, I found that making 4 layers using different brushes, and adding Motion Blur to them with different strengths and angles (eg. Layer 1 0 degrees with 5 pixel strength) etc then setting each layer to Soft Light makes a cool looking background.
