i can't wait till people get over the asian fad. i'm tired of seeing tattoos with asian letters on people who aren't asian. my friend was seriously thinking about getting a spanish phrase in japanese on his back, i almost slapped him. i don't see the logic of tattooing something in a foreign langauge you don't understand.

I realy wanted to do game design, but I have no clue how I would get started in that career.

 

Blizzard says they rarely hire game devs from outside the company unless they pwn and usually just give it to good level designers. I was planning on starting mapping for Hl2 to build a good portfolio and then try to work for a company that makes SP games like midway or something, then going for one of those PC game companies.

 

Also, do you know if game devs are required to know lots of programming AND have to use it?

being able to map with hl2 wont do u any good, there are tons of custum map makers already for the half life community who go unnoticed by the big companies, i know how to map and i doubt u do so save ur self from wasting time and think of another career, being a game developer sucks ass, no credit and horrable hours, its not all games at all, u will be sick of games. fag

Very true, and often times the money isn't worth the work.

depends...getting into game dev with a "big house" like EA or Blizzard is a bitch...and the pay often sucks compared to the work.

 

But most of the developers who make good money do it the same way musicians do...they work at jobs the fucking hate, until they, and a group of "garage" buddies, manage to put together a game of their own that catches they eye of a big house who buys and produces it, or they self-produce a couple games that do moderatly well for independants, and they get bought out or supported by a bigger developer.

 

 

Any way you go about it, game dev carreer pathing is a tough row to hoe.

Alot of ppl with good educations make mid to high 5 digit incomes.And then their schooling and training becomes useless because the technologie becomes obsolete or is done with software than employed technicians.
