Posted September 20, 200519 yr Its kind of sad that whenever some celebrity gives a large sum of money to some kind of a disaster fund they get all this massive publicity that the normal person wouldn't get. For instance, Oprah gave 10 million, and considering she is a billionaire, that just doesn't seem as much. Now lets say I am Average Joe and I gave $1000, which was approx. 80% of my current savings, I would get no publicity at all probobly, and if I did it would be only local. It seems to me that part of the reason celebs give is to get their name out there, so they can gain that money back and probobly end up making more off it. Now everyone is going to be like "oh Oprah is such a great person," but my views on Oprah are a different story. Honestly, I would think higher of celebs that gave anonymously, because that would show me they don't have other intentions. I don't know, I don't think its fair to everyone that you publicize only big givers, it makes the little guy seem less important and less likely to give in my opinion. I have given a fairly large amount, at least comparable to my salary. Will I ever get publicized? Not a chance. I just think we shouldn't make such a big deal over the big donors, because really any money given is great. Jay-Z and P-Diddy were a couple other givers that got some publicity, I believe they gave 500 grand each, for those of you who don't know. I would prefer only constructive comments and criticism in this thread, thank you.
September 20, 200519 yr Ok i concur celebrities are ***gots for wanting publicity as only ***gots want publicity for charity, and if you only give to charity in order to get publicity then you are as big a *** as the celebrities. You should give to charity because you care about the subject not because you want to make money or get publicity.

SOme of them truley do care, and give even if there isn't a disaster or anything, and don't get mentioned even though they give all the time, and that's great, that is their blessing and that is a great way to spend the money given to them. The only ones I have problems with are the ones who only get publicity when something bad happens.
September 20, 200519 yr What difference does it make? The donations are all that matters. The smart people like Gates, donate anonymously because they get hit up for money everytime something happens. People that donate and announce it (i.e. Celine Dion, Oprah) are only after self publication. However, I'd say most do truly care. Bill Gates (net work $40.7 billion) has donated the most to charities but you never hear about it. I can't remember the exact number but he's donated over $200 million over his lifetime.

Yeah I know he is one of them, I'm just questioning people's intentions thats all, and it just seems stupid for America to buy into their shit so quickly.
September 20, 200519 yr EDIT: Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, recently committed himself to donating $750 million to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation charity. The Gates foundation, which is worth $30 billion, is now the largest charity to have been created by a single benefactor or private company by a factor of three, following a previous $3 billion gift from its founder last July.
September 20, 200519 yr I could care less about how much money they contribute when they say "we went down there in kayaks saving people." They saved probably one fucking person with their whole little worker groups and shit. It's bullshit. I mean fuck, If I had that much time and the money to pay for a fucking private jet to get down there, spend hours kayaking, I'd sure as hell do it.

It just the way those people do this like "hey I give money now like me okay?"

September 24, 200519 yr you have a damned good point. It's got the two sides. But in Oprah's case, she's a self congratulating, self important twat. Huge, seemingly generous things just puts her name out on the street. An example of that: She went to some store when it was closing and wanted in. They denied her, and she went balistic on the store, slandering it (I think that's the term... I can't be assed look it up) because it wouldn't cater to her as it was closing. She even said, "They turned me down as they were closing!" It's like... No shit bitch! I want to go home! I put my 8 hours in here for nothing and you want to come parade your fat ass though it? Go away!

September 24, 200519 yr wow an actual post on myg0t where intellects discus their concern with the worlds issus. BTw. good point man, these clebes only do that as a publicity stunt, b/c they know that they will just get that money bak within a week or so i.e. Ophra, BUT on the other hand, all that really matters(like the that one guy said) is the money, who cares what the celebs intentions are, u need to quiet being skeptic about all things, and look at the bright side, sure most celebs are worthless scumsbags. Im sure Ophra sole purpose on making the donation WASNT just to make a publicity stunt causing her to make twice that money in the near future, BUT it was mostly out of her good heart. :wow:

September 24, 200519 yr im not going to make any intelligible post about celebrities, there just idiots not worth talking about, we already know that someone needs to attempt an american coup and kill the celebrities quickly before the coup loses power. Its irresponsible for us to let them keep that money, and irresponsible for us to let them have money. Its alot easier to take the money from them then it would be to have EVERYONE stop giving it to them.
September 25, 200519 yr there are celebtrities donating anonymously probably, you just might nott know it.

October 30, 200519 yr that is indeed exactly what i have always thought... tthe worst i think tho is when celebes "sign shit" and put it on ebay so the av joe can spend their life savings for a piece of shit signed object and then that money goes to the donation of whatever so their losing absolutely nothing yet gaining much more now that they care so much about their fund instead of donating their own money, they donate reg peoples
October 30, 200519 yr Well, considering a quadratic equation, and looking in depth at the Chaos Theory, I conclude that celebrities are only there to do their job. That is to entertain us, and the more simple of us are definitely entertained by their everydays mishaps/affairs. I see nothing wrong with them personally, and who cares if they give away large sums of money for publicity, they already have heaps, and no one cares about the little guy. In summary i think you are being very harsh to celebrities, and that if they give away money for publicity, good on them being the generous souls that they are!
