Bush was whooping ass while the Democrats were worried about how we could fund public education (which will always suck, no matter how much money you put into it. Reason? How about the 143 cases since the Patriot Act has been in effect where it was used as an excuse to make raids on, or infiltrate suspected hackers' homes or computer networks, despite the fact that they clearly knew that their "target" was not affiliated with any know terrorist organization, was not muslim, was a lifelong US citizen, in most cases without any prior criminal record...and where the Patriot Act was used specifically because the legal theories used and actions committed against the suspects were illegal under all previous laws?

 

Personally, I'd call anything that can be bent to allow search and seizure without probable cause, wiretapping and other tech forms of monitoring or eavesdropping, and even blatant hacking of private computers by a government official who otherwise would have NO legal or justifiable ability to do these things as HIGHLY restrictve of my rights...Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't one of the constitutional amendments specific in regarding what constitutes proper grounds for search and seizure of property, and another one regarding what constitutes legal premise for imprisonment? The Patriot Act is, and has been, being used to get around these rights...and it's been being used against private citizens who are clearly not party to any of the things it was intended to help protect us against.

 

 

However...aside from abuses it's currently suffering, I DO support the Patriot Act, in theory anyhow, and recognize the fact that certain rights MUST be somewhat curtailed or abridged for the safety of the mass populace (for instance, I happily concede that the second amendment wasn't intended to protect the private citizen's right to keep a nuclear warhead, a loaded Abrahms tank, or even a full auto AK-47 in his personal arsenal, without SOME restrictive liscensing or permissions from the government...it was strictly intended to let us keep hunting/protection weapons in our houses and on our persons)

Educational quality has nothing to do with politcal parties. Education has gone so far down hill ever since they stopped beating kids that it is a waste to try to bring it back up, so why waste tax dollars on a hopeless cause when we can just hire out the fast food jobs to Mexicans and send the techie shit to China? Really, the only white man making lots of money in the future will be the CEO, everyone else will be a piss poor white Democrat.

Most of the Republican parties support comes from poor uneducated white people in the southern states. The Democrats and Greens sure don’t get these votes. The rich people/CEO's of this country make up only 1% of the population, that sure the hell is not enough votes to win support and elections. It's the uneducated whites from the south that provide the support to these fuckers who then fuck them in the ass while helping the rich. So yes, less education is to the benefit of the Republican Party or any politician really, always has been. Stupid people is why we name laws/bills like the "Patriot Act" when its takes away the rights you once had, dumb people see the name and oh Patriot Act, I’m a Patriot, so that’s has to be good. Keep them dumb and they believe your lies and vote for you, all politicians benefit from this. Like 50% of Americans cant even find Iraq on a map in this country.

 

Here is a even funnier story of mine that is true. I'm in the drive-thru at McDonalds. I order some crap and pull up to the first window to pay. I pull out my debt card/check card to pay and hand it to the girl at the drive-thru window. She scans the card and is looking at it as she waits for the machine to authorize it. She then asks me how to pronounce my last name. So I tell her and she smiles. She then asks me where I'm from, I tell her I was born in Massachusetts but have lived all over. She then gives me a funny look and goes "Is that in America? I've never heard of it before". I then tell her, "that’s why you work at McDonalds honey".

 

Ahhhh......we Americans are so smart....... Glad we spend all our money on other countries and not helping ourselves. Soon as we rebuild Iraq and educate the people there using my tax money, then we can start sending jobs there too and make America even poorer till its just one big ghetto. Why not.

I dont disagree with everything you say OMP, but I do disagree with everything you say here. There are a lot of well-educated, middle class white people out there (a lot more than 1%), and most of them are republican. My whole family is a good example of this.

 

Honestly, I hate politics...its all bullshit in my opinion to keep everyone under control.

no question about it, their is always going to be abuse of power in any form of occupation, sure the govt does this, but as a whole i support the act. Look i'm not defending the whole bush administration, he's done and said some dumb things but the dems running for office aren't very appealing. All they do is bash bush but they really can't just get up to the mike and say what their going to do. I"m all for the progress of america before foreign policy but it hasn't worked in the past, just like the war on drugs, i consider myself more conservative but the war on drugs doesn't work. if it doesn't work you have to change, why spend more money on education if it doesn't work. their needs to be major change in the whole structure. right now terrorism, to me, is much more important than education.
