Posted December 25, 200321 yr Got most of my new parts tonight, spent all evening installing them and transferring shit from old HD's to new, and reinstalling prgrams and shit... sometime in the next few days, I've got to reconfigure all the net crap, and start testing for overclockability... on the plus side, sitting stock, I've got a 2800 barton chip (was expecting the 3200) running 333FSB (166 DD), a gig and a half of PC3200 (clocked down to 333 right now...grr), and a new 120 gig drive (only ATA133, damnit...I need to get my hands on SATS drives...the mobo supports two SATA's, thank God)...and after all that's done, I gotta wait to recieve my new graffy card... anyone worked an OC job on ony of the barton chips yet? if so will they withstand being pushed to 200 MHz base frequency if you drop multiplier down to 11, on an air cooled setup (which effectively turns it into a stock 3200)?

December 25, 200321 yr if you can aspirate it enough yes im running a 2500+ barton with the alphapal heatsink(cant remember name) and it runs fine at 3200
December 25, 200321 yr Author 3 80 MM intake fans (two front case, one side case), 1 80mm exhaust case fan (rear), 2 120mm PSU exhaust fans (rear and top), currently stock AMD2800 heatsink/fan... 28CFM through HS from proc fan...airflow through case 112CFM overpressured, current at rest temp 47 deg C, peak temp under 5 minutes stress useage (benchmark testing) 67 deg C AMD rated "max die temp" 85 deg C seem aspirated enough? I don't want to burn the chip, but I do want to push to a 400MHz fsb...not too worried about multiplier...honestly, I'd be happy to accept 10.5 multiplier, which would leave me with same "absolute" rating, but faster buss. Ideally, I'd like to go 400MHz with 11.5 multiplier (2.3 gig actual "absolute" speed), which is a hair over stock 3200 specs.
December 25, 200321 yr Author Panis...just because I was speaking greek as far as you're concerned doesn't mean you need to be a little girl about it. Let Xodus answer...lol Or someone else who's messed with it, and knows...this ain't the sort of question you can call AMD with, after all. Be pretty dumbass of them to say "yeah, you can buy the $150 cheaper chip, make two changes in your BIOS, and have the equivalent of our top end chip, and it'll run fine, just voids the warranty", wouldn't it?
December 26, 200321 yr Psychobud]AMD rated "max die temp" 85 deg C indeed it can be 'pushed' a little higher Psychobud]3 80 MM intake fans (two front case, one side case), 1 80mm exhaust case fan (rear), 2 120mm PSU exhaust fans (rear and top), currently stock AMD2800 heatsink/fan... 28CFM through HS from proc fan...airflow through case 112CFM overpressured, current at rest temp 47 deg C, peak temp under 5 minutes stress useage (benchmark testing) 67 deg C Should be ok but just incase i am incorrect check out http://www.hardocp.com and ask on their forums because they will spot the problem immediately
December 26, 200321 yr i have amd 1700xp on msi kt333, i overclock to 1600 from 1500. worst motherboard ever. not recommended for overclocking. but the nforce2 with amd1700xp is awsome for overclocking, ive seen it at 2600 before. also, how do you overclock graphics cards?
December 26, 200321 yr some motherboards have seperate charge for the agp slot and some pci slots (numbered) and it makes it REALLY easy to oc vid cards etc.
December 26, 200321 yr some motherboards have seperate charge for the agp slot and some pci slots (numbered) and it makes it REALLY easy to oc vid cards etc. does that tell me how?
December 26, 200321 yr Author ahhchuu...if your mobo is equipped with a BIOS version that allows you to directly mess with the graphics card voltages and multipliers thru bios, you just take it off "auto" and start pushing both values higher. MSI boards tend to have this ability...I know mine does (KT6Delta) If you go into BIOS, and can't find anything that allows you to tinker with voltage, frequency, and multiplier on the card (plus apature, burst, and a few other values), then you can always do a bit of hardwire tinkering...boost voltage a hair, and start looking at modding forums for instructions regarding your particular card.
