Posted October 9, 200519 yr I think they're a pretty cool thing, but i want to know what everyone else thinks. do you think they'll last? you think they'd be useful for computers? here's a website in case you dont know what i'm talking about: www.blu-ray.com
October 9, 200519 yr Why do we need a new format? DVD has only been around for a good 6 years or so and they still make VHS tapes for all the new movies coming out.
October 9, 200519 yr Author well according to the website they are supposed to hold 25GB and dual-layers are 50. couldn't you imagine having a MP3-disc BD-ROM players? it would make ipods obsolete!
October 9, 200519 yr well according to the website they are supposed to hold 25GB and dual-layers are 50. couldn't you imagine having a MP3-disc BD-ROM players? it would make ipods obsolete! yeah but it depends on the costs of the media and hardware. it could be way more expensive than an ipod.
October 9, 200519 yr its gonna suck when you have to buy 2 different dvd players to play blu-ray and hd-dvd. i support blu-ray tho, cuz it has a cooler name.
October 9, 200519 yr fucking blu rays been in the news forever. theyll never finish it. itll be sweet if they did though but its gonna be $30000000 a blank cd and theres gonna be lots of anti-piracy protection on it so i call :dfinger:
October 9, 200519 yr Author I agree with Bill Gates' opinion on Blu-ray. It's not finished yet. well theyre going to use this media format for the PS3 so wouldnt it be on the market when the PS3 comes out?
October 9, 200519 yr I hardly even ever watch DVD's. If a good movie comes out, ill see it, or bittorrent it. Then keep a copy on my storage hard drive.
October 9, 200519 yr You kids should realize, you pick some stupid "next technology" crap to record ....whatever it is you have to record... Do you think you are using the final, perfect, format? You're a sucker. VCRs and tape media is still better than any DVD technology because you can record/erase/record ad infinitum. DVD sucks, it's a temporary technolgy promoted by Hollywood to make more money off of your sorry asses for buying movies you have already seen. 15-40 bucks for an already released movie? YOU WON'T WATCH IT AGAIN. I don't see why you can't just buy some pot and hump your babysitter.
October 9, 200519 yr Well spoke, Azide, although if I had the money I would own more dvd's. I don't know about other people, but i buy movies i KNOW i'll watch again. Fuck people with like 400 movies. I have about 7 or 8 good ones and thats it. What will anyone do with all that space on a cd? No ps3 game will use up that much memory, and putting a movie on it would be a waste. My tv cant even handle high definition, i have to hit it to make it turn on. fuck this new tech shit, stick with what works.
October 9, 200519 yr I can't say I'm for or against it.. But I do like the techonology behind it. The big question is: Wll it be economical? That depends on sony.
October 9, 200519 yr Only thing they're good for now is holding ps3 games and hd-tv movies wich practically no-one has. Might be cool in 5 years or so.
October 9, 200519 yr well according to the website they are supposed to hold 25GB and dual-layers are 50. couldn't you imagine having a MP3-disc BD-ROM players? it would make ipods obsolete! He does have a point, but iPods are still fucking small and can have multipule layers of hard drives so that there isn't one huge disc. I still have my Nomad 2 though. :D No ps3 game will use up that much memory, and putting a movie on it would be a waste.[/Quote] You haven't seen MGS4 previews yet, have you? My tv cant even handle high definition, i have to hit it to make it turn on. fuck this new tech shit, stick with what works. Yes, you do need to get a new T.V. 27' tvs don't cut it anymore.
October 9, 200519 yr you gotta wonder tho... how much will one of those damn things cost. I mean SONY can make them from paper Panasonic can make them from Corn. Companies still know the art of ripping you off and in the end you'll probably be cheaper off with a few dvd dics.
October 9, 200519 yr Sony has been acting really corrupt these days. In that sense, I mean they're more capitalistic than usual. They need to just go back to selling walkmans; they were cool in the 80's.

Yeah we'll just ignore the far superior picture quality ;p

October 9, 200519 yr chubr0ck']Why do we need a new format? DVD has only been around for a good 6 years or so and they still make VHS tapes for all the new movies coming out.***gots flooding the market...just stick with fucking dvds and cdsBecause Blu-Ray will eventually hold up tp 100gb, which is more than 4.7 gb. If I want to back up my PC, it would take 12 DVD's, or 0.6 blu-ray disks. I prefer the latter. I agree with Bill Gates' opinion on Blu-ray. It's not finished yet.Bill Gates only says it's not finished because he's making, funding, investing in, and sponsoring a competing product, HD-DVD. fucking blu rays been in the news forever. theyll never finish it. You might want to look to Dell, who reported they would be putting Blu-Ray drives in their PC's next year. theres gonna be lots of anti-piracy protection on it so i call :dfinger:sort of like CD's and DVD's?
October 9, 200519 yr Well, lets think about it. Maybe you know how when you buy multi-disc games, like.. BF3 for example (If and when it comes out) will probably have so much information on it that a simple blu-ray disc will hold all of it so you don't get: "Please insert Disc 6, click OK to continue"

The tapes wear out go to a garage sale and buy an old VHS movie from 20 years ago and marvel at the quality and crisp 5.1 surround sound
