Public school teachers make better than $15 an hour, jackass. Teachers don't get paid during the summer, they work about 200 days a year, most places (shcool is in session 180 days a year in most U.S. public school districts). $15 an hour at a full time, year-round job is $30K a year, which is a LOW yearly salary for a public school teacher, who does NOT work year-round, full time hours. $60K a year is a moderate salary for a private school teacher who ONLY works the "normal" school year (and is LOW for a boarding school teacher)...and I've known of private schools that paid twice that for the teachers they specifically headhunted. $30 an hour is a pretty low wage for one who only works the "normal" school year (it works out to $48K per year, which is a normal salary for a high school teacher in some U.S. public school districts)

I've held jobs like that, myself, where my "salary" was paid every two weeks, but I was only expected to be available for the job during peak season (reserve pay as a ski patrol S&R team member, back in the day...and the pay sucked, but, for a 16 year old, an extra $50 a month, and discounted lift tickets when you're not on call (free when you're on call and on site) are a pretty heavy inducement)
November 12, 200519 yr I work as a contractor for a division of Lockheed-Martin. $23.85/hr $35.00/hr for overtime. Compared to the pizza delivery I was doing last year, I'd say it's a slight improvement.

November 13, 200519 yr sysfailur said: ah ok thanks for clearing that up for me my bad :) no "bad" about it, man...was an EXCELLENT point, and probably a source of confusion for people who weren't aware of all the different types of pay contracts out there...and there are some pretty bizarre ones available in certain industries (computer consultants, for instance, might have a single yearly fee paid to keep them on retainer, to guarentee availability, and then ahve "additional fees" paid on a "per job" basis for any work they actually end up doing...talk about a weird contract..."we'll pay you once a year, to make sure that IF we need you, you'll come running, then we'll pay you again, if you actually have to come running")

November 13, 200519 yr Quote z00mah']they dont in denmark. teacher is a very low payed job here. It's a low paid job here, too (public school teacher)...$30K a year here isn't enough to live off of decently, considering the average 2 BR apartment is around $1000 a month, and the average house payment is well over $1200 a month...hell, CAR payments, on a new car, are usually $350-$450 a month, and full coverage car insurance (required for any car you're making payments on) is around $100 a month. $30K a year works out to $2500 a month, pre-tax, and you're gonna lose at leats 10% to "non tax" federal garnishments, regardless, and the lowest withholding for taxes I've seen is about 7%, so, at best, someone working a $30K a year job brings home $2,075 a month, in cash, spends near half of that on rent or house payment, then has a used car (can't afford a new one), insurance, food, electric, and such to pay...I couldn't live off that little, if I tried, if I was the only income in the house...as is, our basic bills eat up more than $3K a month, and I bought my cars and house for cash money, so I don't have the massive payments most people have, plus I save quite a bit of money on groceries between hunting and having a friend who owns a "gentleman's ranch" raising meat animals for me.
November 13, 200519 yr I work at the fruit markets packing fruit only on sundays due to school, and thus double pay, which means 18 bucks an hour, for 6-7 hours

We spend about $300-$400 a month on food and between 120,000 and 240,000 won a month for the house phone/internet and two cell phones.
