Posted October 18, 200519 yr What do you think? This is from the ground-up... http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/2792/1500wishlist8ip.jpg This will be my first self-bult PC, so if you have any constructive criticism (ie. I'd swap xxx out for xxx), I'd appreciate it. If you have a negative comment, don't bother.
October 18, 200519 yr You are a dumbass for the two following reasons 1. You're blowing too much money on a computer 2. Wait until Windows Vista comes out, 64-Bit computing will change the industry
October 18, 200519 yr Author 1. Those who have it will spend it. Perhaps you didn't see that part that I said ground-up, meaning starting as if I had nothing. There's a reason it's going to cost what it will. 2. I'm not waiting for an OS to come out to play games.
October 18, 200519 yr Lewl, a computer should never cost that much. And instead of sitting on ur fat ass and playing CS, go outside or learn how to do something productive on the pc. Or be a dumbass, buy it, and regret you did when the new OS come sout
October 18, 200519 yr Holy shit that thing sucks. But seriously if you have the money to spend on it, or it's your parents money, jump on it.

October 18, 200519 yr a crt monitor? only 3500+? I just built my new pc with the x2 4200+ and it is so much better for gaming similiar to the fx-55/57 (if you have the budget) 3500+ ok proc if you only play CS CRT? you can get an LCD 17" for 220$ with good response time like 16 or 12 ms and 1280x1048 resolution but youre still paying the same price! Dont buy your OS, get it off of bittorrent or IRC!
October 18, 200519 yr 2. Wait until Windows Vista comes out, 64-Bit computing will change the industry Wow shut the fuck up. The three primary features of vista will be downloadable for XP. The best features of vista have been stripped away. -There is no new file structure. -There is no console (a la linux). There is only a shitty new graphical interface to hog up more clock cycles and graphic memory. Stick with XP, vista is a bomb. (you know, XP comes in 64 bit, which I heard isn't that bad, and there is even driver support galore!) As for the rig: Get a better proc, definitly. for $1600, there are better things (like the X2s) And the LCD is a much better idea, they are portable too! Speakers?

It's just a preference thing. I've played games on an LCD, it just doesn't seem that much better in terms of quality...besides, I'm almost never going to LAN with this because no one holds them around here and I highly doubt I'll travel to play FPS. Speakers are on the list (or were you saying speakers as if, "Why do you need them?"). If I were to get a better processor, that means I'd have to skimp down on the other things and I'm already over the limit (I was aiming at $1500). What do you guys reccomend me upgrading/downgrading? And for the OS thing, can a pirated version of XP be burned to a CD-R disc or must it be a DVD-R? I ask because this piece of shit I'm on now doesn't have a DVD-R/DVD-RW drive. Anyway, I was thinking about not ordering an OS with it, but I figured I better play it safe. ;\ I was actually planning on downloading Windows XP x64 but I was reading the comments of the torrents and there was problems finding a valid key.

" The point of using a 64 bit processor is being able to DO MORE THINGS WITH IT DUMBASS.
October 18, 200519 yr Author Okay I did a few modifications and I am going to give you guys a list of what I definitely want. After that, think up some other gear to get the price up to $1500. Here's what I know I want. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L250R0 250GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM Model #: 6L250R0 - $91.49 Logitech Ultra X 967353-0403 PS/2 Wired Standard Keyboard - OEM Model #: 967353-0403 - $21.00 ViewSonic G90FB Black 19" CRT Monitor D-Sub - Retail Model #: G90FB - $219.99 Microsoft Standard Wireless Optical BX4-00003 Black 3 Buttons 1x Wheel USB RF Optical Mouse - Retail Model #: BX4-00003 - $25.00 LITE-ON Black IDE DVD Burner Model SOHW-1693S Black - Retail Model #: SOHW-1693S Black - $42.98 Logitech X-530 70 Watts 5.1 Speaker - Retail Model #: 970114-0403 - $53.99 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This all comes to $454.45. Subtract that from $1500 = $1045.55. I'm sure you can do an impresive amount of damage with that money, so if any of you guys wanna throw together something quick for the Video Card (preferrably a 7200GT), Motherboard, Processor (I'm guessing most of you will pick an X2 for this, that's fine), Case, Power Supply, RAM, and optional Sound Card, it'd be very kind of you and I'll give you a cookie. Kgo.
October 18, 200519 yr You are a dumbass for the two following reasons 1. You're blowing too much money on a computer 2. Wait until Windows Vista comes out, 64-Bit computing will change the industry The point of using a 64 bit processor is being able to DO MORE THINGS WITH IT DUMBASS. for K3lba: 1) Id easily blow 20 grand on a computer, spend your money as you will 2) Vista is a load of crap as of late with its driver problems and other quirks. 3) nothing out yet can take advantage of 64bit processing (besides windows xp 64 bit, and Vista, but thats it... no applications/games) theres no gain in performance with a 64bit processor, you get a whole additional set of 32 pins on the chip, whoop-de-do... 64 bit processors wont be really a need-to-have until there's something that can actually make use of it, and when that time comes, the 64 bit processor you bought will be outdated and unusable for whatever it is that can take advantage of it. The best choice is to go with a dual-core which 1- its actually usefull at this current time in technology development 2- a far greater performance boost over 64-bit. now please troll... shut the fuck up and stop thinking that you are making yourself look smart. If you want to do that, go to the general forum and troll there. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- for Locout: That is a very nice system for that ammount, where might you have gotten that from might I ask? Thats a steal for that hardware, I think your getting a pretty good deal. One thing Id consider is dumping Windows XP Home for XP Pro. That system should hold up and run pretty much anything for a good while. If you want something that will run anything for at least 4 years (Depending on whats released in 4 years) Id suggest going all-the-way and spending 10 grand or more on a Flacon Northwest machine, or a VooDoo ( http://www.falcon-nw.com http://www.voodoopc.com ) and get yourself something that would make any PC enthusiest and gamer in your town drool.
October 18, 200519 yr Author All my quotes are from newegg.com. So, do you think I should go dual-core or stay with the 3500+? Is it necessary/worth the extra money? And the money is accumulated from part-time work, saving up a couple years, and selling my Paintball gear.
October 18, 200519 yr £1600 dollars is a lot for that imo, for like £900 (about $1600), ill be getting x2 4.2's, and 2 gigs of corsair ram. Although to be fair i'm not including the moniter but crts are cheap nowadays.
October 18, 200519 yr I did not notice the speakers you listed, my mistake. On the other hand, is 125$ on the case really necessary? I built a budget rig and packed it into a 45$ Coolermaster centurion (from newegg) and I'm very pleased with it. It's a nice, quiet case for 45$. Use the extra 75$ elsewhere.
October 18, 200519 yr £1600 dollars is a lot for that imo, for like £900 (about $1600) and $1600 is way to much to be spending on a pc
October 18, 200519 yr CRT? you can get an LCD 17" for 220$ with good response time like 16 or 12 ms and 1280x1048 resolution but youre still paying the same price! AHAHAHAHAHHAHA LCD WITH GOOD RESPONSE IS 16 OR 12 MS? AHHAHAHAHA what kind of an idiot are you?!?!?!?! good ms on an LCD is 4ms or below which can easily cost you $500 pops, and that is why CRT monitors always PWN LCDs when it comes to gaming because LCDs still are so fucking slow, now and always. CRT monitors have 0-1ms response time, just for the people who didnt know. question for the guy who is buying the computer.. 1. why buy a 7.1 sound card, but only use 5.1 speakers? get a headset/headphones or nothing at all. might as well use pc speakers for all that's worth 2. get a faster cpu. 4000+ at least. that thing you have there wont be able to keep up with the gfx and then you might as well just get a 6600gt or 6800 ultra 3. what were you thinking when you chose winxp HOME? HOME????????????? NO! WRONG! if anything, get pro! always pro! NEVER HOME! home is for your grandparents.
October 18, 200519 yr  and $1600 is way to much to be spending on a pc im not in the poverty class

I will be the first to admit that with perfect eye sight, I can't notice the difference between the 12MS response time my Samsung LCD sports, and the CRTs in my house.
October 18, 200519 yr 1. How you plan on gettin 1600dollers? 2. Have you just selected the most expensive componenets on that site? 3. Get two 24inch CRT's I got 2 for 130pounds each. 4. Dont get Vista until a stripped V is released. Vista will have built in Anti Piracy components.

I know 12 to 16 ms is not a good response time but for this kid who is already spending too much on a computer I was just trying to limit his budget. Lcd's definitely are better picture for what you are paying for then CRT's though. __________________
October 18, 200519 yr If anything, don't buy the OS. Get it warezed. As for the thermal compound, do you plan on overclocking ? Else you probably won't need it.
October 18, 200519 yr Author Man, you guys are really nosey about the money...haha. I already have a grand, and if I don't have the rest by the time I buy it, my dad will probably just pay out the rest...which won't be much. To the guy about the speakers, yeah, you're right. I don't need the 7.1 card but just incase I do get 7.1 speakers one day, I might as well have the card. Also, I plan on plugging my guitar into the computer and tracking a bit but I was contemplating as to whether I really need the card or not. In the end, I probably won't get it. Even if I go with that Centurion case, which I probably will because it's cost-efficient, I still have a grand to spend on the CPU, Power Supply, Mother Board, GFX Card, and RAM. I think the most I'd want to spend on a CPU right now is the price I'd have to pay for the dual 3800s. So that's set. I just don't know a lot about mother boards when it comes to dual processors so anyone know a good MoBo for that? Someone reccomended EPoX... I don't mind getting "budget ram", as long as it doesn't fuck me over and works fine. It doesn't need to have LED's on it or any of that gay shit, I just want it to work, and work good. Edit: I already downloaded and burned XP Pro x64, so the OS option is history.

And the money is accumulated from part-time work, saving up a couple years, and selling my Paintball gear. I would think that a dual cre is worth it, but thats just me, Im a geek/nerd and spending 15 thousand dollars on a PC is a must. Money is not an issue when it comes to the one device I value abouve all others, besides if i were to spend 15 thousand on a PC now.. it would be a good investment. Ive had my PC (Top-of-the line at the time of purchase) for over 3 years, and its still a great system other than the video card.
