I definitely agree with you on the money issue. If it's something you get the most use out of more than any other appliance in the house, you shouldn't feel guilty about spending money for top-notch quality and performance. Alright, here's a revision. Take a look now...

Just go to http://www.newegg.com and under each of the items I've listed, there's a product code. Just put the code in the search bar at the top of the website, hit enter, and voila.

cool, I havnt really used newegg.

If you need a new mouse, I suggest a Wired MX518. 1600 DPI. Great precision, you can aim one pixel at a time on your screen if you want. Plus you don't get to deal with the low battery bullshit and response time. It has 5 buttons, and allows you to change your sensivity at the click of a button (On the mouse, you can customize 5 sensitivity levels).

It's about 50$ CDN, so it shouldnt be hard to find it for maybe a bit more on Newegg.

for K3lba:

1) Id easily blow 20 grand on a computer, spend your money as you will

2) Vista is a load of crap as of late with its driver problems and other quirks.

3) nothing out yet can take advantage of 64bit processing (besides windows xp 64 bit, and Vista, but thats it... no applications/games)

theres no gain in performance with a 64bit processor, you get a whole additional set of 32 pins on the chip, whoop-de-do... 64 bit processors wont be really a need-to-have until there's something that can actually make use of it, and when that time comes, the 64 bit processor you bought will be outdated and unusable for whatever it is that can take advantage of it.

The best choice is to go with a dual-core which 1- its actually usefull at this current time in technology development 2- a far greater performance boost over 64-bit.

now please troll... shut the fuck up and stop thinking that you are making yourself look smart. If you want to do that, go to the general forum and troll there.

for Locout:

That is a very nice system for that ammount, where might you have gotten that from might I ask? Thats a steal for that hardware, I think your getting a pretty good deal. One thing Id consider is dumping Windows XP Home for XP Pro. That system should hold up and run pretty much anything for a good while.

If you want something that will run anything for at least 4 years (Depending on whats released in 4 years) Id suggest going all-the-way and spending 10 grand or more on a Flacon Northwest machine, or a VooDoo ( http://www.falcon-nw.com http://www.voodoopc.com ) and get yourself something that would make any PC enthusiest and gamer in your town drool.

:jerkit2:

CRT monitors have 0-1ms response time, just for the people who didnt know.

yeah crt's can give you 1000fps

:O_o: :O_o: :O_o: :O_o: :O_o:

product choice:

1. Case is overkill.

2. mobo: I have same mobo, non-ultra. only difference is SATA2 + more raiding.

3. new ATI cards dont seem to have much advantage.

4. dual-core? no clue.

5. memory: download the manual from msi site. my same mobo non-ultra version is picky about memory choice. stick with single-sided memory sticks....

6. get XP Pro warezed. Cracks are out there to let you upgrade to SP2.

shopping:

i am getting sick of newegg. a lot of "reviews" on newegg are very opinionted (eg. OMG! i got it one day early 6 stars!, omg it works as it should 7 stars!) also, there are other merchants who can offer better retail price online. better yet, you can go bargain-hunting.

for eg, you could have 250 Gb, 16mb cache NCQ SATA from monarch.com for $99 tax-free, free shipping. That's MUCH better deal.

another eg, you can have that exact speakers from buy.com for $39 - 5% off = ~$37 with free shipping.

if you take time to research/shop, you can have a better system for same or even less price.

Look at fatwallet and slickdeals forums. hot deals come on every other day.

good luck

[edit] oh yah. you are missing perhaps the most important thing: power supply. read this and this. essentially, you want not only look at (nominal/sometimes deceptive) total output rating, you want to look at output rating on each rails, especially 12V rail. >18A is min, dual 12V rail, totalling >30 is good.

avoid antecs; way overpriced. avoid power supplies with fancy lights/shits too, they usually skimp out on real important parts.

[edit2]

this is goal

Ok, I'm saving up for a computer with same price and way better shit heres the guts:

CASE : ATX MEDIUM TOWER CASE 350 WATT (BEIGE COLOR)

CPU : (939-pin) AMD ATHLON64 X2 4400 CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology

MOTHERBOARD : (Sckt939)EVGA nForce4 SLI Chipset SATA RAID Dual PCI-E Mainboard w/GbLAN, USB2.0, &7.1Audio

MEMORY : 1024 MB (512MBx2) PC3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR MEMORY (Corsair XMS High Performance Memory w/ Heat Spreader)

VIDEO CARD : NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GTX 256MB 16X PCI Express Video Card

VIDEO CARD 2 : NONE

MONITOR & LCD : NONE

HARD DRIVE : 80GB Hard Drive (SATA150 - Seagate 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache Hard Drive)

Hard Drive 2 : NONE

Optical Drive : (Special Price) LG GWA-4161 16X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE DUAL LAYER (BEIGE COLOR)

Optical Drive 2 : NONE

SOUND : HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO

Price: $1434.00

Thats with no OS or monitor cause my dad could get me those for free.

-get a DFI nForce 4 ultra-D (runs faster, better OC)

-you don't need corsair XMS unless you wanna OC, and if you want to then you should get OCZ Patnum rev.2

-also you should get a opteron 148 socket 939 (1mb cache) and OC it to 3.0 ghz also pair it with a zalman venus or something like that.

-your video card would bottleneck at your processor

-PSU? also is it a 24 pin, is it good?

i'd get the venice core 3500+ not the claw hammer (claw hammer is old ass 13micron technology, the venice is 9 micron.)
Should get the SLI motherboard, you might buy another video card later on..
  • 2 weeks later...
And then XP will be abandoned, everything will be developed for Vista. Nice thinking.

btw - "There is only a shitty new graphical interface to hog up more clock cycles and graphic memory. " The point of using a 64 bit processor is being able to DO MORE THINGS WITH IT DUMBASS.

just shut the fuck up, and acknowledge that you know nothing about computers

[edit]

useful stuff:

yeah, either go with a dual core AMD chippy or hit up the FX line

as mentioned, your RAM is overkill unless you wish to OC

mobo, ^^^^ yes.

post your PSU.
