October 19, 200519 yr The Windows hosts file in system or some shit that you can put hostnames and the IP they will resolve to.
October 19, 200519 yr you can block it in Windows by putting it in hosts file as 0.0.0.0 q4master.idsoftware.com hosts file is found in Windows\System32\drivers\etc can be opened and edited with notepad what doing this does is it forces your computer to use the loopback address of 0.0.0.0 for the hostname q4master.idsoftware.com, so it won't successfully contact the keychecking server This SHOULD work for all Windows machines, with or without firewall, with or without SP2 It also works to kill intellitxt links, if you know how to identify the servers.
October 19, 200519 yr btw...for those interested in doing so, you can blck "suprise links" that pull to to lemonparty.org, and such sites the same way. all you do is edit the hosts file like so: say you don't EVER want to be brought to ogrish, and someone tends to send you links to it...even if the link is hidden as http://www.cuteandfuzzypuppies.com, but ACTUALLY links to http://www.ogrish.com, if you have THIS in the hosts file: 0.0.0.0 www.ogrish.com your machine just can't go to anything on ogrish. And for you kids who like to drive mom and dad nuts, you can set it to redirect hosts. get the IP for lemonparty, and replace mom and dad's bank's hostname with that ip.... Say mom and dad bank at Bank of America, and check their account online, and lemonparty has an IP of 37.221.132.18 in hosts put 37.221.132.18 http://www.bofa.com then try to go to http://www.bofa.com, and see what happens :) This is also fiun to do with school and library computers...change hostfile so most major search engines resolve to something that rages people.
