I have been fooling around with various tuts for pratice. Anyway, I tried a few tuts on blending text and can not seem to get a decent output with this brushed up image I made. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about this or can point me out to a good tut?

Honestly, the best thing for you to do is to mess with the blending options and fonts until you find something you like. There really is no other way to do it. Judging by that picture you probobly want the text in overlay or soft light. After you do that just mess around with the settings until you get something you like. After you get that you could try rasterizing the text layer and going over it with the eraser set to a grunge brush, or just a brush you like.
