Posted November 15, 200519 yr Okay, so i've finally decided to upgrade from my crappy computer to a modern gaming PC. 1st off, this is a serious, so leave the flames out. I've done some research and i wanna start comparing some prices. What i want built is a Computer with the following: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ with HyperTransport Technology Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Service Pack 2 650 Watt ATX 2.0 Power Supply with Active PFC(any brand) Some cool chassis cover with lights and shit(but not REAL pricy) A cooling system(Chassi Upgrade) nForce™4 SLI™ Chipset Motherboard PCI Express 256MB PCI-Express x16 NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 GTX 512MB Low-Latency Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz - 2 x 256MB 160GB Serial ATA II 3Gb 7,200 RPM w/8MB Cache 16x DVD-ROM Drive with Software DVD Decoder Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS High Definition 7.1 Surround Firewire (IEEE® 1394) 3.5" 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive Integrated High Performance Gigabit Ethernet 56K V.92 PCI Modem Like i said this is a serious post. If you are interested in taking the time to give me a truthful offer, we'll talk, and see what we can come up with. I'm open to suggestions. im trying to get the most of my money here. Also i would like to get as much input as possilble on compuer parts. Thnx
November 15, 200519 yr I dunno personally I wouldnt buy a pc. Id but part and build it myself. If I remember I can give you the number to a PC warehouse wholesale for any and all PC parts that you need. You pay factory prices...but you also pay shipping and handling. Also you have to do 100% of the building.

November 15, 200519 yr When I bought this box it took about two-three days for everything to get here and I live in ohio. Thats not too bad since its comming from florida. It just depends on how much you wanna pay for shipping.
November 15, 200519 yr Author well, doi have a good setup? would you replace some parts that i have listed?
November 15, 200519 yr Sino poena of a million nex, malum unus, pro hora of vestri demise propinquo! Oh and for a good gaming PC I find that 500 Meg of Ram is a laugh.
November 15, 200519 yr ya , 512 ram is pretty much useless with all the resources XP uses . at least double your ram . and no CDRW or DVDRW ? very least you should have a CDRW , they are dirt cheap and worth the 25-40 bucks
November 15, 200519 yr I got a top of the line DVDR for about $130 I think it was. So its not like we're talkin all that much money.
November 15, 200519 yr Seriuous reply, just split apart. Also wrong forum, but still... AMD Athlon 64 3800+ with HyperTransport Technology Looks pretty good, but I don't know what all supports this, or for that matter when it will be fully implemented. I've heard dual core is the current way to go. Stick with some dual core one for now. 64-bit technology is still a ways off Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Service Pack 2 Cool, you want to go legit. Depending on how much you know about compters will ideally decide the price of this. Anywhere from 0 - $200 650 Watt ATX 2.0 Power Supply with Active PFC(any brand) Some cool chassis cover with lights and shit(but not REAL pricy) Fuck the rice. Just get a good chassis that provides airflow. The lights are just to impress people at lan partys. BIG FUCKING DEAL!!! The money you save on the lights and stuff can go into getting a case that moves more air runs cooler, and thus, works better. A cooling system(Chassi Upgrade) +1 to working nForce™4 SLI™ Chipset Motherboard PCI Express 256MB PCI-Express x16 NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 GTX SLI basically links the video cards, right? Do you plan on getting a second one? If so, then this is a good idea. Otherwise, stick with a motherboard that doesn't use SLI. 512MB Low-Latency Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz - 2 x 256MB Don't do x2 256. at the very least, X1 512. More upgrade room there. Ideally try doing x2 512, x1 1024, or even x2 1024. More ram is better. Get what you can afford. 160GB Serial ATA II 3Gb 7,200 RPM w/8MB Cache 16x DVD-ROM Drive with Software DVD Decoder Get a dvd +- rw drive. They are roughly $60 starting. I got mine for under 40 from either tiger direct or newegg, I don't remember. Either way, look around. Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS High Definition 7.1 Surround Firewire (IEEE® 1394) 3.5" 1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive Integrated High Performance Gigabit Ethernet 56K V.92 PCI Modem I can't give you an offer, but I'd say what you had would go for... Two grand? right off the top of my head. Or maybe if you are looking to just use this as a starting point for a great gaming machine, then you can go with this. http://www.tomshardware.com had a guide on building a pc that is just a starting point. Just look around for prices.
November 15, 200519 yr All in all, I'd say that would run you a little under $2000. Like someone said before, upgrade that fuckin ram. Games and OSs are resource hogs this day and age. Even though you have classes and whatnot, you're waaaay better off building your own shit. This comp is my first build, and because of that, it took me a good several hours to complete. You'll save a lot of $ buildin your own.
November 16, 200519 yr Author are you saying i should just stick with intel pentium's? if so, what model?
November 16, 200519 yr are you saying i should just stick with intel pentium's? if so, what model? NOT correct forum to ask try a tech one, just find yourself benchmarks etc amd always outdo intel dont think its changed since i last checked when i was deciding between AMD and intel.
November 16, 200519 yr without a moniter would probably be about 1700 to 2100 depending on brands of ram, quality of cooling fans etc etc
November 16, 200519 yr Wow that sure is a shitty PC Save your money and get a computer that will play pong at greater than 10fps my commodore 64 goes like 7 times as fast as that piece of shit
November 16, 200519 yr Is that just some store bought system? Just wondering who the FUCK buys a fiddy6k modem these days?
