Posted January 2, 200619 yr well i have 2 problems that are pissing me off a little first one is that when i double click a folder , it opens a windows search instead of simply opening the folder. second problem is that all my folders are setted at "read-only" and never asked for it , but when i try to deselect the read only thing , it deselect , i click apply , i click ok and i leave the folders propreties and then i come back in the files propreties and the "read-only" is still there. could you help me ? :)

To fix it you have to edit your registry... Start regedit: start>run - type regedit and press enter. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell Double-click on "default" and replace it with "none" without the quotes of course. Second problem: messed up attributes You can try running this program/script to get your attributes fixed...I have no idea whether they'll automatically go back to being read only or not. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/croa.zip If neither of these work let me know and I'll walk you through fixing your local security policies in windows mmc. If you don't have Windows XP Pro you might be hosed.

Its beginning to sound more and more like you have a virus or maybe some extremely aggresive spyware on your hands. You can try using one of the web based virus scanners, but truth be told you're probably going to have to format. Regedit should not close immediately after opening, that's bad news.
January 2, 200619 yr Okay, it's a virus, as draihl said. The fact that regedit closes means that it's running right now, so check your process manager and google all the processes in there. (it'll tell you what it is). When you find the one that's the virus, come back and post it, and we'll try to help more.
January 3, 200619 yr I have my doubts that it is simply going to show up that way. Get a copy of F-Prot on a floppy and boot through DOS running a full scan. Burn off whatever you want, then reformat. When you go to put those files back on your computer make sure that you run a virus scan before doing so.

I wanna restart everything. I suck in computer and such so when you say : reformat how do you do it ? I only know one way to do it and my friend told it to me but dosent sound really neat..he said to take a magnet and put it on the hard disk. so is there another way to do it without opening my case and stuff ? I know there is one but I suck at computer stuff so... I google'd it but nothing came out well... a little help would be nice please dont say something that would fuck up my computer... that would be really stupid. or dont flame me like : ohh you suck at computers what a noob ! thx.

Check your C:\Windows\system32, if you have the following files in there, you're infected: CMD.COM NETSTAT.COM PING.COM REGEDIT.COM TASKKILL.COM TASKLIST.COM TRACERT.COM This will prevent you from opening the windows comand prompt and the registry editor.

I dont understand what you mean in there. I cheked my system32 file and i have every file named except regedit but they dont end in : .COM they are all application files. so im infected ? cause ive just reformated. so I have only downloaded my anti-virus , anti-spyware , mirc , msn , quicktime , winamp , mozilla firefox. so how could i get infected if i just deleted all the old content of my harddisk ? im not understanding what you mean by if you have the following then your infected and after saying that it will prevent me from opening stuff...

If you just reformatted you shouldn't have any problem with viruses on your computer, unless you got infected again in such a short period of time. If reformatting and re-installing windows didn't help, then you're in deep shit. EDIT: I just checked an all my folders say "read only" too. I don't think it really makes any difference. If I was you I wouldn't worry too much about the read only thingy. Make sure, however, that you can access regedit and the command prompt.

Yeah im able to run regedit and command prompt. but the thing is , if my folders are read-only , i cant change the content of them. like , the voiceannoy script isnt working and it's because of that. all my shit isnt working for cs and every other games. so it kinda really sucks.
