I need to keep it around £400-450 though. Don't worry about RAM, I'll get some off of eBay, seems to be alot cheaper, I found brand new 2GB RAM on eBay for about £10 more than 1GB in shops. I don't really know fuck all about sockets or any of that shit, all I want is the processor and graphics card to fit, any help is greatly appreciated.
January 10, 200619 yr get yourself a nice MSI Lga 775 socket board to go along with that cpu make sure its compatible with your ram + has sata screw that ata hdd and get a sata hdd, 3gb a sec = fast...... get a good cpu cooler

January 10, 200619 yr I would advise getting an AMD for gaming- the AMD Opteron 148 has served me well in all intensive situations... BF2, HL2, HL2: Lost Coast, BF2: SF, F.E.A.R.- I can run em all at max settings with very limited "map change lag" and a good FPS I run: AMD Opteron 148 @ 2.2 ghz OC'ed to 2.5 ghz nVidea GeForce 7800 (GT or XT or soemthing T XD dont' remember which and I'm at school right now) 1 gig DDR2 Ram SB Audigy 2 ZS Plat sound card

January 10, 200619 yr i'll probably get flamed for saying it but oh well. sometimes if you look around for coupons online, you can get a very good deal on dell pcs. i got one that was top of the line, but with a shitty graphics card and didn't order a monitor or speakers. it was like 600 dollars. i upgraded to a new video card later and hoooked it up to my stereo and the crt monitor i already have. works great for me and didn't cost me too much, plus dell's tech support is good for broken keyboard/mouse/speakers, because they just airmail you a new one and let you set the old one outside for pickup. whenever i get too much dried cum, cheeto crumbs, and pubic hair stuck in my keyboard, i just order a new one. i'm not saying it's your best option, but it's worth looking into before actually putting the cash down for parts.
January 10, 200619 yr yeah the amd proc 4200+ that i have is a lot less for the money than intels brand whihc would be the 820 or 830 and performs better with the hyper transport bus of like 1600 or 2000 mhz and and the high closk speed for multitasking. the 3800+ is still great though and is better than intel's 600 verisons by far. for a mobo i would choose either the A8NE or the SLi versio if you are going to use crossfire with your ATI card.

COMPUTER CASE POWER SUPPLY MOTHER BOARD GRAPHICS CARD CD BURNER DVD/CDROM HARD DRIVE PROCESSOR TWO HALF ASSED FANS KEYBOARD SOUND CARD RAM, TWO OF THESE (4GIGS KEKE) MICROSOFT XP(WILL DOWNLOAD LINUX LATER) TOTAL= $1269.00 (also didnt need new mouse or monitor, but needed a new keyboard cause i spilled fucking milk on it and had to bust it open and wash it out, some keys still fucking stick. To add to that I did it again not too long after that. So dont eat milk and cookies at your computer, people, for fucks sake.) AND CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS FUCKING GRAPHICS CARD IS WORTH MORE THAN THIS WHOLE COMPUTER?: FUCK
