mod #1: swap in a vr6 or a 1.8t

 

the AEG motor (i believe that's whats in the jetta, otherwise it's an AVH or AZG) is WEAK. Its utterly useless, 115hp/122ft-lbs, and it's an 8v. The motor in the 90-93 cars, the 9a motor (2.0l 16v) made 134hp/133ft-lbs, and that was in cars that were 700lbs lighter and 10 years ago. I say forget the 2.slow and trade it in for a new car, or don't even bother modding it. The most you're going to get out of it is about 150. and PLEASE if you start to mod it, remember, the air filter is going to be the LAST mod you do, so don't run out to auto zone and buy yourself a k&n 'cold air' intake. Because i guarantee on a stock motor, it will only decrease your horsepower.

I've ridden in a 1.8T before... they are pretty zippy on the roads. Nothing to get excited about but it is definitely a car that needs some sort of forced induction to make up for its n/a numbers.

well i dont really race it or want to and so the only way id start to mod it would be if i got tired of the engine in which case id just pay someone to replace. i didnt buy it to mod it or because i thought it was fast, i traded my truck in for it because my truck had 53k miles and got around 16mpg city, which sucks dick when your gas prices go up to $3+/gallon and the jetta only had 14k miles on it and got those from being a bank fleet vehicle just like my truck which i only owned for a year. so yeah, ill probably end up getting rid of it and get a new car in around a year anyways.

Figured, most people don't buy a 2.0 to make it quick ;)

 

But if you want some mpg, the jetta TDi gets right at 50mpg. I know hybrids do get a few more mpg, but the thing is the TDi is a diesel engine and it's tried and true and everybody understands what's going on, while a hybrid engine is relatively new and you could really only take it to that maker's dealership for diagnosis.

anyway my ride is shit - mind you it doesnt have clear taillight covers- but its shit, i'm getting my parents' mercury sable with a bashed front bumper when i grab a license, i plan on heading down to pick n pull and getting a good bumper, then taking the car to a paint place to get it painted with a glossy black coat, then it wont be shit. until then, it's shit. :ugh:

I wouldn't even bother doing all that to it... just buy a better car for less than 3 grand.

had a long post for this but it evidently didnt make it ... not sure why.. but lets just say this thread needed some american muscle added to it. Not that you folks will care but this car seriously kicked ass. I'd put it against ANY 500hp ricer either REAL or IMAGINED and honestly believe that it would win. In the entire time that I owned this car it was never out ran either on the street in heads up or on the track in bracket racing. all in all this car had less than 8k worth of parts with all the mechanics performed by myself and a few friends. Most expensive single thing was the fkn 7 in pulse/touch screen Kenwood in the dash. Hell even the paint was cheaper.
