Posted January 25, 200619 yr I am pretty computer literate, and can undertsnad complicated advice so keep that in mind. Okay my problem is that I get absolutly raped by every download client in the world. I have a 6 Mb/s connection through comcast, but the highest speed I have ver gotten from Bit Torrent is like 20 kb/s. I know this is becasue you need to forward ports and what not, but every time I do it still is slow. I use McAfee Firewall 2006, and open ports there still nothing. I have a Motorola Modem, a Linksys BEFW11S4 router and McAffe 2006 as I stated above. I am just looking for help as to what client to use, and detailed instructions on how to set it up to get the speeds that I have seen other people get. Another problem is the other two comps at my house are both MAC so dunno if that will do anything. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this cuz it is a major anoyance getting such slow speeds. Thx.
January 25, 200619 yr I use Bitlord. And im pretty fucken stupid when it comes to Computers. But ive heard Azureas (i think thats it) its really good and prolly the best you can use. I have the same SLOW download with some files but that might be the tracker or site you're using. I only use 3 torrent sites and Seedler seems to be the best as far as BS files are concerned.
January 25, 200619 yr ya use azureus and then set the ports up, then go onto your router on linksys its called application and gaming then open the ports up for YOUR local ip, then set your firewall software to allow use of that program. there done, on your clientent next to the torrent it should be a green light if its not then you have done something wrong, also remember that just cos ur getting low speeds it might have something to do with how many seeds and peers the torrent has, another think limit your upload maybe to somthing like 20 k/s [EDIT] i was bored so look at this http://www.g0tr00t.co.uk/torrents.JPG
January 25, 200619 yr I use azureus as well, I think it's the best client out there... r00t, what tracker or site did you get that torrent from? It's got a great amount of seeds...
January 25, 200619 yr If you don't like the amount of resources Azureus uses (due to its Java), try uTorrent it's way smaller and uses less ram than Azureus (sometimes as low as 95% less). If Comcast is starting to use packet header inspection & packet shaping to throttle speeds, you'll need to use BitComet and its "header encryption" setting, however BitComet is banned from private trackers. Also make sure you limit your upload speed to 60-80% of your lines maximum upload speed, (75% is considered the norm). I fixed this for a friend of mine by changing his upload speed from "unlimited" (a max of 80kbps) to around 55-60kbps, and his download speed shot up from 35kb/s to 215kb/s.
January 25, 200619 yr yeah i also use bitcomet but have expermineted with port forwarding and it really did not do too muchin terms of download speeds. lowere your upload speed to like 2 or 3 kbs and your downloading speed will shoot up from 20 kbs.
January 26, 200619 yr most trackers also have an U/D ratio or score for you ip. so if you've just been leeching and not seeding you'll get crap dl speeds. set your upload limit to 80% of your total upload speed, you need some left to send the acknowledgement bits for what your downloading.
January 26, 200619 yr Author Thx everyone for posting so many replies I really appreciate it. I am just wonderign what torrent sites you use. The only ones I know are torrent spy torrent search and the internal search on Shareaza (which i think sucks). Anyways I would really like to find some new resources. THX
January 26, 200619 yr In my country, the ISPs got sick of getting Bandraped, so they throttled speeds on the bit-torrent regular ports. I've heard fi you change the ports you open, and set the bit-torrent ports to use the same ports, you'll dodge this throttling, and get proper speeds again. Haven't tried it as HD is full of games I still havent played/finished.
January 26, 200619 yr Yes Azereus is my choice, I've tried many and stick to Azereus. It is very customizable, but the only downside is it is a really bad memory hog Best torrent sites are thepiratebay.org torretspy.com isohunt.org thepiratebay is by far the best and my fav
