January 20, 200421 yr ben.d0ver']see' date=' this is why I allways keep a micrwave oven next to my cd's and a big strong magnet near my computer.[/quote'] Why not get a cheap steel HDD rack, wrap it in thin headphone wire, and splice a cutoff button and a 50 mF capacitor into it?...push the little red button on the side of your computer, and instantly flatline all signature on your HDD...without damaging your other equipment (it puts your HDD in the middle of a 50,000 volt electromagnet for about 5 milliseconds when the "panic button" is hit, and interrupts the 12v DC feed to the capacitor...voltage is huge, field is limited size and duration...will scramble the HDD magnetic signature, but doesn't get big enough or last long enough to fry anything else...except possibly the BIOS chip...which is easy enough to replace)
