I was stating that absolute value can only determine whether to numbers are "symetrical" so to say, rather than having the same ACTUAL VALUE. If you get what I'm saying.

1 = |-1|"

 

and you said NOT TRUE and claim to understand absolute value at the same time.

No, the system of absolute values is only worthwhile if it can be related to the real numberline via symmetrical origin-point distance. To define it as a "different value" from the real, positive distance (which is what gives you the actual number, 6 is only 6 because it's 6 units from 0) is indicative of shoddy teaching and a failure to grasp what's really happening when you say something equals a number.

 

Now, onto your idea of calibration. When you calibrate you advance the origin in an i,j,k fashion. You then remeasure. This doesn't change any measurement, it just changes the coordinate system. If you measure a length of wood and then "calibrate" the system to halfway into the middle of that wood you will get half the distance from the origin to the end of the wood but the length of wood has not decreased. The concept here is that while the distance from the origin may change, the overall distances do not. This effects abolute value not at all since absolute value is distance from origin.

 

So, conclusion: get off the drugs.
