Posted March 8, 200619 yr Well I just reformated 2 nights ago and am instaling everthing. When I use my top dvd drive, (also a dvd burner) it starts making loud sounds. Never had this happen before. I can feel the vibrations stiting here. What could it be?

March 8, 200619 yr this should jsut be a coincidence with you reformating but other obvious questions could be have you installed your drivers? maybe that would have somethin to do with it even thouhg it is a hardware probelm, not software.
March 9, 200619 yr Unless you changed the firmware (not the drivers) this is a hardware problem. From the description of the sound, the drive motor is hitting something. Hitting it honestly might work, as opening it up you are more likely to destroy it than fix it, unless you know what you are looking for. If that doesn't work, plop down the 30 bucks for a new drive.
March 9, 200619 yr Are you 100% certain it is coming from the DVD drive? It could be a bad fan bearing or a loose screw on another component.
March 9, 200619 yr Author Thanks guys for the constructive replies, I've been sick all week so I'm going to have LOADS of homework, so I'll try to check it out this weekend. I'll try to dust out my computer take it out, and plug it back in, see if that works, if not I'll install some new drivers thanks I'm starting to regret not buying the most expensive hardware now.. lol Anyway its not even that old.. I'd say 9 months max.. Thanks guys though
March 9, 200619 yr the most expensive one isn't always the best.... It's probably a loose part inside it. smack it once or twice... if that doesn't fix it, take it out after getting the replacement and beat the living bejeesus out of it. It'll make you feel better... =oD

March 9, 200619 yr Sometimes my drives start humming and vibrating my case too... I just rap on the front of them with my kuckles a few times and it usually stops.
