I have two computers, the other one is in the next room. Is there a way i could have a app like remote assistance on the pcs so i can control the other pc without walking from room to room? Ive tried vnc and conf.exe but because they are running on the same ip it dosnt know what one to pick, so i need some knowlege on how and if its possible.

Thanks in advance

They aren't the same IP address, use the router assigned ip address to do the control. If that doesn't work use the mac addresses to identify the computers.

YOu said that you want to "control" the other comp in the other room but i figured you might also want to share files so heres an easy tut for sharing. I'll get back to you if you want it for "controlling" the other comp.

you can actually do it in a very simple way that does not need that much knowledge of comps. First, are you running both comps on Windows xp, prefereably SP2. If oyu are then you can run a network connectinon off both of the comps in which you can gain files, etc from both comps. FIrst, you would need to have a wirless network card and a wireless router or you have to have an ethernet cable long enough to stretch. (Wireless is a lot less of a hassle though.) Now you can setup this new connection by going to control panel/network connection and on the right side click "setup a home or or small office network. This would assign a name for the domain you are connecting to and you could now connect both of the comps and share either a drive, or share files through the "shared documents folder." Now you can access files from both comps no matter which comp you are working on.

I dont knwo whehter you want to "control it" like through every app or jsut want to share files so if oyu need to "control" then i have something else in mind.

I don't just need to share files i need to see what im doing, example. I dont have adobe on this pc but if im in the middle of doing something and i need a graphic i dont want to get up go to the pc, make it upload it. Im lazy, i want to see what im doing. If thats not possible i guess ill use the old file way.

I tried VNC, whats the difference?

--- I just tried Remote Desktop and it said something about a terminal server?

I tried Gencontrol, i thought i had some luck. They both connected, then it errored with RPC couldnt establish or something so, nope.

Turn off the firewall on both machines...assuming you use a hardware firewall on the network.

Also...put both machines on the same 'workgroup' with same admin password.
