ignore these fgts, if you're on a really low budget go for a yamaha pacifica. the pacifica was my first guitar and i still play it now because it is such great quality. it's also the cheapest guitar out there. if you can afford to spend a bit and don't mind second hand then check out some of the better epiphone les pauls and the cheaper fenders on ebay. i recommend you don't buy guitars with names you don't recognize until you know a bit more about them.

I was originally a guitar player, but i switched to bass because i liked the deep sound.

I'd recommend a ibanez grx20, stays in tune forever and sounds good

and if your left handed by chance, learn righty.

Les paul sucks. Everyone i know with a les paul says they wish theyd of got a ibanez.

For beginners guitar go with what hooden said, it is the best value for money that you can get. Acoustics arent as fun as distortion on an elec, and you can just buy an acoustic pedal for a bit of cash. Even if you dont get addicted to it, it will still be fun to play it. The hardest things to learn imo are just the hand cordination, so the first few days of it will be pretty boring, unless you have played an instrument before or something involving both hand sync. Once you learn a few chords and get to a decent speed though it gets alot more fun.

Oh and if you wanna learn because of some complex song by some band like trivium or dragonforce, then be prepared for a long amount of time playing/practicing, or just dont bother taking it up at all if you aint ready for the effort.

Were all your friends who hated Les Pauls a bunch of nu-metal morons?

yup just got home from a friends house, played some guitar songs together

You? Friends?!

Ok guitar is easy to play, you just have to practice. Ive been playing for about 2 years, and im already better then people who have been playing for 5 years, just because i practice more then them.

Now a days, its hard to get a guitar that will last because the wood they use to make the guitars now suck, I have a Godin, or its gaudin, i forget but its really good, my guitar teacher, told me that this guitar is made with the proper wood, so it should last a long time. Also the one i have are one of the higher better guitars that godin makes. I think the type i have is Seagull, also i only got it for 450 CDN wich is a good price!

You? Friends?!

Yes I'm an exception to myg0t. I might be one of the only people that have friends outside of the internet! can you believe it!!>!

no.

Les paul is overrated. Everyone loves them and treats them like they are the best, but they are just average imo, including their top end guitars (with exceptions). My friends in the majority listen to a mix of things, including Tool, AX7 (older stuff), Killswitch, Trivium and Anal Cunt.

What would be the sense in that, if you're left handed, you should learn left handed

I am left handed but play right handed. There is a good reason for this as well. If I played left handed then guitars would cost more, I'd never be able to play other people's guitars and there are absolutely no benefits, I am a very competent bass player and play guitar pretty well too and I doubt playing left-handed would've made me any better.

bass > everything else

Bass gets boring after a while.

And if you want to start guitar, for sure get a Yamaha, they are the win.

Edit: And bio, I fucking hate ibanez with a fiery passion. I have a crappy les paul special, you get what you pay for though.

I have an Ibanez GIO. I like it.

Buy a cheap Ibanez or Yamaha if you are on a low budget. Learn the guitar. It's worth it.
