Bass gets boring after a while.

And if you want to start guitar, for sure get a Yamaha, they are the win.

Edit: And bio, I fucking hate ibanez with a fiery passion. I have a crappy les paul special, you get what you pay for though.

Man, you have no idea... bass does not get boring... your just playing the wrong stuff. You got to explore more, like people like, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, just some examples... you got to play like the good people. If you think its boring, it means you pretty much have given up.

ignore these fgts, if you're on a really low budget go for a yamaha pacifica. the pacifica was my first guitar and i still play it now because it is such great quality.

No, you still use it because you cant afford a more expensive one, because you spend all your money on food you fat shit

for your first guitar get a fender squier

basically fender and gibson are the only real brands, but others can be fun, jsut not practical, and yes its easy it just takes practice

I started playing bass about 5 years ago. It's boring to me now because I usually play with other people and no one gives a shit about the bass, When I play alone i like it but with other people all you are is like a second drummer keeping the beat.

Just don't walk around your high school or whatever going "hey i'm cool cause i can leik play guitar" like some people i knew. And they were shit at it and they kept bragging like homos.

do it just to rage cobalt <3

Well you can't just go around buying guitars all willy-nilly.

How much are you willing to spend and what music do you plan on playing?

Turntables = gay

Pwnt.

But, shit. You guys make me feel poor. I'm stuck with my old Fender. And I just broke a string.

Fuck.....

Bass strings are like $10 or more a string, depending on the quality... I have to buy a new set of strings, cause i just defretted one of my basses, but i dont have the money to go buy the set... i find my self to spend the money on other stuff. Anyways, yes, guitar strings are very cheap... ive even found deals like 10 packs of strings for $10.. which i would love if they were for bass. Bass is just an expensive hobby, but extremely fun.

what bass do you own man?

i got this guy here, http://www.rondomusic.net/sjb75cleft.html

i took off the plates and stuff except for one on the bridge.

I put one seymour duncan hot p-up, and seymour duncan vintage j-bass p-up

it rwns.

Ibanez makes the best quality low-end guitars. As far as amplifiers go you will want to start with a 10 or 15 watt transistor amplifier. Thats the route you want to go if you just want to look cool. If you actually want to learn, spend 150 dollars on an acoustic and move up from there.
Yes, listen to SYF, learning on an electric is probably the worst choice you can make. Starting Acoustic is a lot better in so many ways.
Honestly, Who ever is trying to win the war of "Best guitar company" in here is an ignorant idiot. I suggest you get a guitar you LIKE and that is in your price range. If you have the chance, go to a guitar store, Ask someone who works there, and test out a few guitars. You will know what feels good in your hands. I personally, use Ibanez, Ovation, Epiphone, Gibson, Fender, and Jackson. I have one of each. Depends what sound your looking for. I use my Ibanez for music like Joe Satriani, or Steve Vai. Ovation for acoustic clean songs. Epiphone for open tunings and same with the gibson. Fender Resonator for slide guitar and open tunings. Jackson for metal which I never play and am going to sell. It's got skulls on it and they dont make them anymore. I dont like the graphics. Too hair metal for me.

Very true. You will learn to play loud. I started out on Electric and I have the problem playing very softly. This doesn't matter for volume, but on how the sound comes out of your guitar. You can play softly on volume 11 but it sounds not as good as playing tough on volume 5-6. Start acoustic if you havn't allready. Good acoustics....Ovation, Epiphone, Gibson, Martin Taylor, Ibanez, Rainsong, ect...

Very true, and correct me if I'm wrong. You have a guitar signed by Steve Vai, right?

So much bullshit has been posted in this thread, it is untrue. I'm just gonna go round and clear up a lot of things for you idiots.

Turntables > guitar

Each to his or her own but don't go criticizing guitar in a thread a guy who is buying a guitar made to decide what guitar to buy. Not to mention that way more people here play guitar than DJ.

bass > everything else

This is a biased comment from a bass player and yes I feel the same way as bass guitar is my favourite instrument, but that doesn't mean that everyone should feel this way. If everyone played one instrument there'd be no one to play anything else and no variety.

Don't buy cheap Ibanez, OK?

Les paul sucks. Everyone i know with a les paul says they wish theyd of got a ibanez.

You must know some idiots then, or just wannabe metal freaks. Les Paul is a good first guitar to go with and there's a reason why they're so popular.

Not true, no instruments ever get boring because as long as you play you are always getting better at it. And your argument about lack of people who care about bass is poor. I am in 2 bands where my bass skills are well appreciated and I know of several people who are looking for a good bass player to form a band, the problem is not enough people are taking it up and playing it to a level that is good enough and part of the problem is people who just think it's a poor man's guitar.

OK you come into this thread and claim a Squier is a viable option for a new guitarist. Please kill yourself in a humorous manner so we can all laugh at you.

No point to owning or playing guitar unless you are in a band

And how do you propose people form a band when they can't play an instrument? You have to start somewhere and that means buying an instrument and practising on your own until you're good enough to play in a band.

Once again I'll say it, Ibanez are crap and not a good choice first guitar. And as for amps 10 watt is all you need, 15 watt is pointless. However, in my experience and the people I've witnessed learn to play guitar, starting off with an acoustic is the best way to go.

Also, Audistarr makes some good points and seems to be worth listening to.

To sum this up, I think it's fair to say most of you are clueless idiots when it comes to buying a guitar, gg. And I will recommend to the threadmaker once again that you start with a Yamaha Pacifica but most of all to just try out a few guitars in your range and try them out.

I actully have 4 different basses. The one i defretted was an Ibanez GSR200. I didnt like the way it played, and a lot of the frets buzzed, so i wanted to make it a fretless, because for one, i wanted a fretless, and didnt have the money, and for two, i got this bass to use for school, but never reeally used it anyways. Im not compeletly done with that bass, but i have other basses to play while im working on that one.

The other basses i have are these:

Schecter Diamond Series Custom-4

Peavey Fury 6

and

Peavey Milennium USA made bass(which i got for an increadible price of $400)

I love all of my basses, but i always have the urge to get more, but first i will need to get a job for money...

As far as amps go, i have:

Ampeg BA115 100watt combo amp *Use this for practicing

and

Eden Nemesis NC410 320watt combo amp with an Eden Nemesis 4x10" cabinet for an extension cabinet. *This is my giging rig, and it is insane. Supposedly can shake houses from seven houses down... according to the cops that made us turn it down at 4pm.

Bass is more than a hobby for me.. Hopefully it will become my full time job.

Signed by Eric Sardinas and Steve Vai. I got him to sign a bunch of my shit and the guitar technician let me play all his guitars on stage and he gave me a bunch of his old strings from the show before. Really fucking cool guys! I chilled with the whole band on stage for awhile. Eric Sardinas is real badass slide guitarist too.

Edit: A gay picture I made of my guitar.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/Audio32/Myguitar.jpg

I have one, a red silver-star 7-string that I bought here in korea for $230.

I hooked it up with some Blue Steel strings (.11-.60) detuned it a whole step and it sounds awesome.

When I get back to the states I want a Ibanez K7.
