Posted March 26, 200619 yr Just wondering if anyone here has any good tips/methods/advice for working out and getting into better shape. I've been hitting the gym on a regular basis for the past couple months, maybe 4-5 times a week, couple hours a go. I'm getting decent results out of it going with a pretty basic workout. My current workout consists of doing an hour of elliptical running every day I go, and then alternating between lane swimming/weight lifting as the secondary activity. I'm taking whey protein and creatine, and it seems to be helping out a bit for building muscle. Anyways, if anyone here is into working out regulary, and has any advice or tips for it, they would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
March 26, 200619 yr If you wanna get in shape quick and get some muscle quit your regiment that you're doing right now, and start taking the '2000 calorie per drink' shakes you can get at your local health store, three times a day. Then eat as much carbs as possible, bulk up on those. Do this for about a month then you'll be built.

March 26, 200619 yr http://www.intense-workout.com/ has some good info. There's a good chance you're going to do it for about a month then quit so here's what I'd do if I was you: Go to your local Play It Again Sports and get weights. They go for about $0.50/lb. I think And most improtantly eat breakfast. ataraxia']If you wanna get in shape quick and get some muscle quit your regiment that you're doing right now, and start taking the '2000 calorie per drink' shakes you can get at your local health store, three times a day. I'd say about 4,000 max or you will end up looking like Hooden Hen.
March 26, 200619 yr I started working out because of a back problem, and now I'm extending it to the whole body, tired of these chicken arms. I do 150 abs, some weight lifting and run about 1km every week, it's not a lot but that's a start, muscles are popping out teehee
March 26, 200619 yr Before I say what I'm going to say I just want to say STFU to anyone who wants to make an ironic post or whatever, you're gay. Personally I find that alternating what you do will keep your interest in keeping in shape and not get bored too quickly. I go swimming for an hour once a week, take a 5 mile jog once a week, cycle for 30-40 miles once a week and play sport occasionally (started to play soccer on breaks at college because the weather is better now). I work out on dumbbells a few night a week and do some other exercises to keep the rest of my body toned and I try to goto the gym sometimes but I don't go as much any more as I do my exercises at home and do other activities I stated above so I don't have much need to. Also you have to think about what you eat, fruit is probably the most important thing in your diet. I find a bowl of cereal and an apple sets me up for the day and then I am also in the mood to excersize later on. Also I eat grapes a lot these days, I personally prefer them to other fruits because they have a nice taste to them, I just see eating other fruits as a chore. Definitely don't take any supplements or shakes, there is no such thing as a quick route to getting in shape, just making sure you keep up on all the little things and you will tone up in due time. If you are thinner than most people then maybe it would be worth taking body mass shakes or something like that an hour or two before you work-out so that you have some fat to tone up.
March 26, 200619 yr I do free weights regulaly at home curls etc. Ive increase my weight alot from when i started and find i lift more and more. I just do it to gain strength. Although i dont see much gain as far as muscle appearence, my body type and frame works againsed me. Heres a good site i use. http://www.bodybuilding.com

So says the fatass. It really depends on how you wanna look. If you want to bulk the fuck up, lift heavy weights in 3 sets of maybe 10 or 13 reps, drink some shakes (preferably after the workout). If you want a thinner toned look, you can lift 4-5 sets of slightly fewer weights in reps of 13-15. I did the latter workout following a mile run. I kept it up with 4-5 small meals a day and I lost a shitload of weight in a month, brought my body fat percentage down from 22% to 17%.
March 26, 200619 yr If you want to get big, do ALOT of reps with lower weigths. You dont gain as much strength, but you end up looking bigger. If your working out schedule is a school week (mon-fri weekends off) make a schedule to maintain. Never do things like Bi's and Tri's on the same day, and always try to end off with cardio. Ive gained about 7 pounds since i started working out (about 1.5 months ago) and im not taking any suppliments, just eating right and mainting my schedule.
March 26, 200619 yr Yeh, a few tips. Eat carbs before a big workout and protien afterwards. Also don't lift 2 ddays in a row, alternate lifting and running days to give your muscles time to rebuild.
March 26, 200619 yr First, do not listen to what anyone has said in this tread. 99% of what I just read it is obvious people have no idea what they are talking about. Second, go read online, like someone said, bodybuilding.com is a good place to start. love, chief

No, high reps and low weights build definition. Heavy lifting builds bulk. Don't eat meat. If you do eat meat, make it chicken. Lots of water. Flush your system. No soda. No Gatorade.

Do cardio first , EACH AND EVERY DAY, 20 minutes of running and biking every day, no if ands or buts if u want to have any chance, after that find your routine of what u wanna do and do it, make sure u do the excersises RIGHT tho.... wont matter how much ur lifting if ur doing it wrong... could do more reps n more weight n get less results if ur doing it wrong.

You are partially right..carbs before protien afterwards....but you should run EVERY DAY. As for lifting weights do it every day except dont do the same thing everyday...alternate upper body one day the next lowerbody. BUT RUN EVERY DAY. I spent 6 years of my life doing nothing but working out for sports, and then the sports themselves...If you stay with it in a few months time you will double if not tripple your strength.:naughty:

March 26, 200619 yr BUT RUN EVERY DAY. Hmm, I hope you mean short distances like 5 minutes as I doubt you could run every day for 20 minutes unless you are uber-fit. Like I said, I run 5 miles once a week which takes me about 25-27 minutes depending what kind of shape I'm in and I wouldn't be able to do that on a daily basis.

Even if you aren't that fit, you just gotta set your mind to it and ignore the pain.
