I am so sick of post-modern angst filled bullshit like this. Does the government do most of everything for power? Sure. Do the grunts get to pick where they fight? No. But the fact that we do not get to fight where we wish, or even if we agree with it, does not change the fact that we are willing to do our duty, even if we do not agree with the reasons.

 

There is a reason with this, and it is not just because we are stupid. We do it because we realize that there is not always time to argue about actions. There is not always time to think. There are times where action is required, and when thinking is just not possible. When you are pinned down, there is not time for debate over whether your commander has made the correct decision. There is only time for doing what he says, regardless of if he is wrong. If you wait you die. If you act, atleast you have a chance. This is the reality of war.

 

I find it ironic though that you bitch about soldier's fighting for freedom, when you have the freedom to mock them. Is our system perfect? No. Are unconstitutional actions by any President or Congress acceptable? No. Should we be mad that our rights are being trampled on? Yes. However, that has nothing to do with where we are now.

 

Reality is, despite the politics going on in Iraq, despite how our soldiers are being fucked over by a lack of planning, they do their job. They see how shitty it is everyday, and they do their job. That is true dedication, and I have utmost respect for that.

In history, we praise the bravery of the regular Wehrmacht. Even if they hated Hitler, they fought for their country. Hell, the British and German Navy's both had a deep mutual respect, despite their fighting each other. War is dictated by politics, that is reality. Politics dictates basically all international situations, so that is hardly surprising. However, the people who fight the wars don't do it because they thought it was a great idea, they do it because they believe they have a responsibility to answer the call for their country.

 

We despise the Third Reich, because of what they did. Their conduct was completely unacceptable, and their reasons for killing were beyond the scope of sane.

 

As for no government fighting a war for freedom: What do you call Chechnya? What do you call the American Revolution? What do you call the US's change from neutrality overnight in the face of being attacked by Japan? What do you call US intervention in Kososvo? in Bosnia? in Somalia? Actually the majority of the soldiers who fought only did so because they were scared of being accused of being a jew and having their families slaughtered under false alegations. Also, the german economy was torn to shreds, people were starving to death. The nazis got in by abusing certain aspects and also gave promises to the people such as better lives and revenge for the thousands that died in the first world war. People either watched their family die of starvation or die of simple illnesses because their bodies were too frail to ward it off through malnutrition. They were hoping for help and a better life and the nazis were promising it. Theres some holes in your theory, "buddy".
