Posted April 27, 200619 yr I got this from another forum. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gas Price War This is something we all can do. Today on the ABC news the story was confirmed. Also the fact that Exxon just kicked Wal-Mart off the top of Forbes list for biggest profits. We can do this. A GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people. I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you? Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
April 27, 200619 yr I received this same thing in an email a few weeks back. Sadly, while it is a great idea, it will not work due to incomplete cooperation of, well, the entire fucking nation. I myself have been toying with the idea of public transportation.
April 27, 200619 yr I know my space is a piece of shit, but if you really want this to get around post it there. Maybe all of the 6th graders on it will tell there parents.
April 27, 200619 yr Well, guess im not buying from exxon or mobil anymore, hey it's worth to atleast try. If people wouldn't be so lazy, this method would work VERY WELL.
April 27, 200619 yr Its been floating around on ******* for a few weeks now... But like FattyMcButterPants says "it will not work due to incomplete cooperation of, well, the entire fucking nation." And I agree. People are too stupid to cooperate. Unlike the immigration law... You see every mexican out on the streets protesting. oh and I never bought from exon or mobil before...so no problem here.
April 27, 200619 yr 1) They manipulate the supply curve and have more than enough power to outwait you. 2) It won't work, you won't be able to shift the demand curve enough even with millions of people 3) This is stupid
April 27, 200619 yr When gas went from .90 cents a gallon to around $1.20, I remember the same thing going around. It goes around every time gas goes up. Welcome to the world of chain letters and stupid ideas on the internet. Oh, by the way, welcome to America as well. This is a capitalist nation, where these gas companys should have the right to raise gas to the point of $9 a gallon if they wish. They couldn't due to the government sanctions and regulations pushed upon them, but if we believe in that whole "Constitution" nonsense and what this country was founded on, they're nothing more than a buisness that has the right to charge whatever they wish for their product/service. Dont like it? Go ride a bike to Canada you un-American hippie.

You are wrong.

April 27, 200619 yr So the Constitution is un-American? Brilliant. You're un-American for questioning and arging Capitalism and the constitution of this most brilliant country, faggot. Communist peices of shit like you are what makes other countries hate us.
April 27, 200619 yr aids sig made me laugh. This thread is done. I see tons of SUVs for sale on the side of the road each day. I myself drive 1.5 liter car. People laughed when hybrids first came out 6-7 years ago. Now the hybrid owners laugh at us. This situation just requires a change in thinking. Gas prices don't need to go down, our consumption of it needs to go down. If we cannot manipulate the price, then start driving hybrids or use a different fuel.
April 28, 200619 yr but if we don't have the money to pay an extra X cents per gallon, what makes you think we can make a $100-$200 car payment per month plus teh gas that goes in the god damned thing. It's kind of a catch 22. In my situation, I'm a college student not even making $700 take home a month Try to get a $15,000 car on that while still trying to pay bills and feed yourself.
April 28, 200619 yr reading ataraxia's posts then the guys posts with ataraxia in his sig is really confusing

April 28, 200619 yr This happened before, at least twice. Gas prices go down, people buy gas-guzzlers. Prices go up, people get pissed cause they have gas guzzlers. People buy fuel-efficient cars to save money. Gas demand goes down gradually, and gas is cheap again. Rinse and repeat every 20 years.
April 28, 200619 yr Also: freedom of speech is un-American? Is this website land of America? NO SIR, you have freedom of what you dumbass people type but replys and flames are your punishment.
April 28, 200619 yr Also: freedom of speech is un-American? Also: Shouldn't you be on your bike on the way to Canada by now? Get out of this country.

April 28, 200619 yr Our gas prices are a pisstake, considering your average is $1.50 that's about 80p in the UK and our average just reached 96p yesterday (about $2 for you unmathematical fgts). This is an extremely optimistic idea but if only some people follow it it will work to an extent. Have faith you pessimitic bastards.

Umm, but while you were living in a cave for the past 3 years, gas price averages have jumped from that $1.50 in about 2002/2003, to an average of $3.00 a gallon in California, and quite close for the rest of the country. You try to look smart, then you fail. Do some research next time.
