Nintendo Reveals Official Name for the Revolution: The Nintendo Wii

Featured Replies

I dunno, i buy nintendo for zelda and metroid. This console seems more like a party sort of thing with the infared controllers. Problem with gamecube was there was nothing special about it. However, who gives a fuck about a system that can play dvds, music and play games? My computer can do everything that the playstation and xbox consoles can, hence i dont bother with them. Ill probably get the wii, regardless of it's stupid name and the gamecube's failure.

I can imagine warioware being a good game for the wii, its funny enough on the gc when you and your mates are drunk as hell.

40']It's not gonna exactly be dirt cheap here, we had the ps2 for like £350 (or £400) when it first came out, yanks got it for $400 or something like that, it's not gonna be like £100 or so here, it will prolly be about £200, fuck that, i'd rather pay £350 for an Xbox360.

You seem like a fanboy, Hooden.

For a start, I'm not a fanboy, I don't even like video games that much, but I do enjoy retro gaming now and again and it's good that there's finally a console that's going to combine all the relevant consoles of the late 80's and 90's except the PS. I like Nintendo because they're purely about video games, Sony and Microsoft are only on the scene because they see it as another market they can conquer and just throw all their money into making heavyweight machines when that isn't the point of video games.

As for the price, Nintendo aren't rip off merchants like the rest of the console manufacturers, when Gamecube came out it was $200 in the US and in the UK it was £150, and considering the strength of the GBP right now it could be even cheaper this time around. And even then, if it's too much over here I'll just get one imported from the US. All I'm saying is don't dismiss it as 'too much' immediately, I'm still considering PS3 even though I'm unlikely to spend more than £300 on a console.

They should've keeped it "Revolution", "Wii" sounds like an homosexual nigger.

Anyone who's posted in this thread and thinks it will be shit needs to do some research or quit trying. I'm not going to list all the features but the people who are trying to criticise the Wii are way off the mark.

My reasons why I am definitely going to buy a Wii regardless of what anyone else says:

1) It's effectively a bunch of retro consoles bundled into one and you can download all of the games onto the hard drive that comes as standard. Also 100% compatible with GC discs.

2) It's going to be dirt cheap. Even if it's $200 it's still far less than you'd have to spend on all those retro consoles seperately and it could even be as cheap as $100.

3) Nintendo know what they're doing, Innovation is what they're good at.

4) I'm fully confident it won't flop, I know of many people who will be buying one and the Japanese market will not allow it to flop.

5) My final reason is sort of a mix of other reasons. I don't want to spend too much money on a console that developers are just going to churn out boring, unoriginal games on. The PS2 and XBox had some good games between them but I don't believe enough to warrant owning one in this day of PC gaming. I want to try something new and different and I think the Nintendo Wii will bring this.

Emphasis is mine, obviously. Those will be the two main reasons the Revolution will not fail. I suppose another concern would be how big the games are compared to how much hard drive room you have.

The hard drive will be 512mb. According the Gamespot, NES games will take a few hundred k each and SNES games will take around 1mb each. If you run out of space there's an SD memory card slot on the console. IMO it won't be an issue.

damn... I didn't know how much info was out on the thing... Soudns like it's going to be good then... keep the hard small to make it more affordable... awesome

This won't flop at all. Nintendo has a pretty even spread on the market from kids to adults. They have classics which most of my generation grew up on and they have a ton of "kid friendly" games that my kids have grown up on. Most parents feel safe buying the Nintendo brand knowing that there aren't too many GTAish games for Game Cube, Nintendo DS, others. As a parent I don't really mind my kids playing violent video games or watching violent movies, but what I am worried about the language. (GTA:SA was really bad language wise , atleast compared to most games) I already get enough heat from my wife about cursing around them and I don't need anymore. I also notcied that my kids like to play their Nintendo over my Xbox, 360, and PS2. I believe they like the simplicity of the games and the controls over all other consoles. So one could say while PS2 and Xbox were catering to a market which is growing older and is dying Nintendo was catering to a new market. When I think about it there werent too many titles for kids on PS2 or XBox, Nintendos foundation are kids games. There are holes in this but to me it makes a little sense.

Whatever this is too much just bullshitting while on a lunch break.

Smash bros was fucking awesome. Marth ftw.

I used gannondorf myself, Marth was a fun guy to play but they made him almost TOO good I think.

"console's controller can detect its exact location and orientation in 3D space."

i have really high hopes for the wii, expecially with the controller+zelda+metroid games

The SSB title is currently codenamed as 'Super Smash Bros. Revolution' and is probably going to be the main launch title for the console.
Im a big fan of this console, it looks really interesting and I am definitly going to get one pending a few things... How many other companys (square, capcom, to name a few) are going to allow their games to be downloaded to the hard drive, and how much it will cost per game.

The only noticeable game that will be missing is Perfect Dark (N64), as Rare is now owned by Microsoft, aside from that everything will be there. There has been no talk of prices yet.

No more perfect dark, banjo kazooie or jet force gemini, those games fucking rocked.... but now rare ware is pumping out shit for the xbox.

Add Conker, all the Silicon Knights games that were in development, (all the games that made me like Nintendo in the first place). Nintendo is too fucking stubborn to work with other developers (hence the loss of their once loyal second party developers), and as a result have lost many of the games that made them who they are. To hell with Nintendo. If I buy a next gen console, Xbox 360 will be the first non-Nintendo console I've owned.

Link > SSB

no1 beats me n link

1ON1???!!11

Me and Jigglypuff pwns you, rest ftw

I think this console will be a success, providing they keep the price down

Nintendos main down fall BY FAR was the price of the N64

I remember when it came out here (uk) everyone wanted one and it made the PS look crap. But, it had a price of about 400, and games were 75 - 80 quid! (like 150 dollars...........)

so basically Nintendo probably got on their high horse and thought were so good and great , every one loves us so lets rip them off. And it came at a massive cost as they lost pretty much most of their market share - i mean who has a game cube over a ps2 or xbox? (most ppl have a gamecube AND another console.....)

So, providing they keep the cost down this could do well

I mean look at the controller, how fucking (not to sound a nerd) but how fucking cool is it lol

Theres nothing else like it. And you can do much with it. They have add ons whereby you can turn it into a gun, have it as a sterring wheel and just loads of other shit which ive forgotten. They even have it, if you dont know this yet - when you look at it in one view it is actually the same design as the very first nintendo controller!

So if they make it dirt cheap, and have good games i might actually get one (and ive never bought a nintendo console before)

Is any one really going to buy this system?

I think Nintendo is dead.

if its not too expensive. i have a feeling its going to be at least better than the XBox360, which was just lumps of shit hurriedly thrown together to make some kind of system before all the others came out.

the Wii looks pretty cool to me, with its remote control-like controlers.

im just waiting for the Super Smash Bros. to come out to i can play it.

EDIT:

did anyone else read this? rofl
