Between the two, I'd say go with the mini... But if you can test drive either, do that, then make the decision... I would say get the Cooper S GP... but that's an additional $10,000 on the price! Though the tune of a 214 HP go cart's a sweet one... but 168's not bad for a light car like that... I guess another question is are you lugging anything other than people around? If so, then the GTI may be better for that. But I can't be assed to look that up. Edit: ok, looked it up... I'd definitely say go with the mini unless you got more than you and a few things to move.

No, I'm not even joking, get a 1991 CRX DX and put a B16A engine into it and swap a turbo in too. You'll have about 240 HP at the wheels and a car that weighs about 2,400 pounds.

As for you 'real' Japanese cars you should look a little further than the mainstream cars. Lockout: If you're not looking for racing power, then what are you looking for? Honda's have great reliability, its super easy to find spare parts in case you get in an accident or something breaks, they have lots of trunk space for storing your shit, and you can haul around friends too. They're all around excellent cars.
