if you're going to tell me to get into better music, know what i listen to. and comparing goregrind to death metal is idiocy, goregrind is a subgenre of grindcore, which is a subgenre of hardcore/punk. hardcore is not death metal, nor is grind nor goregrind. and "good" music is all relative to the person listening to it.

PLEASE don't kid your self for a second here: Crossover is not new to me. I compair gore grind to bad death metal merely as a joke; musically they are not similar. But what bothers me about goregrind is that most bands depend on digital effects (rompeprop vocals) and shitty drum machines to make their band sound more "Brutal". Its just a shitty subgenre. If i'm going to listen to something gimmicky, i'd listen to west coast powerviolence (crossed out/mitb era, in reference to the shirts with flowers on them that say "I LOVE PV" that slap a ham put out, and spazz). And simply because I do not like goregrind, i am saying, and will continue to say, that all of it is a pile of steaming dog shit.

And just as a suggestion; emmerse yourself in more gulf coast grindcore.

Download PLF's Industrial Cancer EP, all of Insect Warfare, order/find/trade for 50/50 records and order the new insect warfare/bolt stein split 7" on rescued from life records

Comparing grindcore to west cost powerviolence is just low. I'm im the middle of the whole "west coast pv" madness, and know 50% of the "big" pv bands out here. It's all absolute ***gotry. I talked to Kenyon (MITB) and he even said that PV was one big joke and died with MITB. These kids think they're being cool playing a mock-genre.

The whole speech on the bands using effects to be brutal is biased and very generalized. Although the main bands in the genre do such, there's tons of good goregrind bands that dont use effects.

Goregrind is one of those things you have to have a love for to listen to it.

Oh yeah, and the Machine Gun Romantics clips, heh. Havent heard from them in a while. Hung out with 'em at the 625 fest at Gilman about a year ago. Cool guys everytime i've met 'em.

I was actually compairing west coast powerviolence to gore grind in terms of "gimmickyness" (word?). The boogie boards, beach balls, and music are just as gimmicky and lame as a lot of gore grind is, with what i've seen from overempasis on death as a theme (especially on album covers), typical generic "Ivy" sytle band logos (if you don't know what im talking about, look at Phlegm Throwers logo and tell me that 10000x bands in the genre haven't done something similar.) But I suppose your right, maybe there is goregrind out there thats semi-tolerable.

Im sorry your in the middle of the West Coast PV explosion. I read the Bastard Noise/Eric Wood interview and I know Kenyons view on powerviolence today. Something along the lines of (quote); "Power violence is dead. Anyone claiming the "power violence" description for their own is cancer."

And that is part way true- the power violence of that era is long gone. Stuff like despise you is dead, replaced with shit like magrudergrind (fucking horrid). Its all violence, no power. The slow sludgy parts are gone, replaced almost entirely by PLAY FAST, NOT GOOD bull shit. It makes me glad I live in houston- even though KS is dead (and so is MGR, good dudes though, I will agree.) there is new shit coming out all the time that is actually good, as opposed to LA's "Apathetic Ronald Mcdonald" (which im very suprised ever made it to a VINYL pressing, even if it was a split with an equally shitty band) And we still have Hatred Surge.

Also check newjack bands from Houston- Gay Marriage (pure thrash assault- members of 50/50) and Lethal Enforcers (northside power violence).

And as for MGR, Alex is still doing hatred surge (thank god), but hung up knuckle scraper (split with uzi suicide will be their last release), but he is also doing a project with max ward (spazz, scholastic deth and 625 fame) Brian and Casey from LBAL and Carl from our turn called "Mindless Mutants" out on dangerously small records.

P.S. Warsore is alright, thats about all.

P.P.S: Hit me up on soulseek if you have it- CodyDoss. I'll send you all the demos.

ARM was great when they sounded like ULCER and Eddie and the lot werent a bunch of tweaker scenester fagbags. I used to know 'em all and be good friends with them back when they would do the Sylvan Park shows (2003/4). All this shit out here is rediculous, but the only redeeming factor is a few of the guys are pretty decent (Sergio from AAS and ACxDC).

I've gone away from all that shit as of lately (pretty much since I went to 625 fest), but i'll check out Hatred Surge.

I still have to fight the whole gimmickyness of GoreGrind thing. Gore being part of the name, will of course, have a gory theme to it. A fair majority do the theme as a gimmick, yes, but the music is all that matters to them. As if you listen to that style of music for subject matter anyways. Check out Abysmal Torment, they're DM/GoreGrind and are fucking amazing.

But end of discussion on this thread, lets take it to SOULSEEK or something heh.
