Video Making Tutorial::

Due to request I have taken the time to write a step-by-step tutorial on the process of video making. Pics included.

First thing's first.

Why should I bother with a video?

Videos are less work to read than collages and are also quicker to make than collages. Also; videos uploaded on public hosts such as Putfile or Youtube also bring more traffic into the site. With only a small amount of know how you can create a decent sized video rage within a couple of days (including filming.)

Sure that’s sounds great, but where do I start?

Well firstly you need the correct kit.

- Screen capture

- Movie editor

- Rage tools

The most popular game capture program at the moment is fraps (Avalable here) The trial version is obviously free and the only handicap is the small fraps watermark at the top of the clip and the 30 second limit on filming (This will be explained later)

Once you have gotten your hands on fraps, you will need a movie editor. Don’t have one? Think again. Windows movie maker comes with XP and can be accessed here:

Start/All Programs/accessories/entertainment/Windows movie maker

Don’t have XP? I’m sure you can download windows movie maker off the Microsoft website or through another mirror. Google is your friend here.

If you intend to make a counter strike movie; it helps to have a VoiceAnnoy/Spamscript; both of which can be found easily on the myg0t.com site aswell as on mpc.

Okay I have all that. What now?

You’re ready to start filming! Firstly, run fraps before starting up the game you intend to rage. Connect and begin. The default hotkey to start recording is “F9” and you will also notice an fps counter in the corner of your screen. This is yellow when not recording and red when you are. Pretty simple stuff. Now what happens next depends on what type of video you intend to make. Do you intend to film people screaming at you over their mics? A teamkill fest? A bit of both? Teamkill movies are pretty straight forward. Simply press f9 and start teamkilling.

REMEMBER:: The trial version of fraps stop recording every 30 seconds. You will need to keep pressing F9 to start filming again. Don’t miss golden footage through forgetting to do this. Crack/Pay for a version of fraps to avoid this problem.

Filming a micrage is slightly trickier as you first have to identify that someone has a microphone and is willing to use it. Then you need to make him/her/them use it. A good voiceannoy is effective at doing this and just generally target them more than others. It will get them fuming in no time. It’s also a matter of knowing when they’re likely to complain and thus when you need to hit F9. Having to delete waste footage is better than missing a golden shot.

I’ve been raging for a few days and have all the footage I need. What now?

Time to edit.

Open windows movie maker. First thing’s first. You need to import all the fraps clips you’ve made and you can do this from selecting import video from the menu found at the left of the screen. You now need to locate the movie files you need to import. You can either import one at a time; Highlight the ones you want or hold *CTRL* down while clicking on the clips you want. Then click “import.”

Importing may take a while depending on the amount of footage.

You will now have the imported clips ready to use. The dropdown menu can be used to select a different “collection” of footage. Now, you can drag the footage onto the timeline as shown below.

Arrange the footage as you want adding titles, video effects and transitions from the menu on the left of the screen. Play around with the program a little to get used to its features. You can have as many tries as you want as long as you don’t delete your original footage. To add an effect simply drag the effect onto the clip you wish to apply it to. Making titles or credits is also a straight forward process. Select from the list where you want to put the title/credit (At beginning, before selected clip, after selected clip, credits at end, On the selected clip*) *This makes the text visible on top of the existing footage. These are useful for commenting on your own movie without disrupting it.

You can also change the font/background/animation of your titles.

Also, import music the same way you imported the video. (Select from menu on left of screen and find the music/sound you want to add.) Music/Sound effects can be obtained from several places. Limewire is a popular method and so is downloading via Windows Media Player. Google is your friend.

Now, simply save your movie. Select *Save to my computer* from the “Finish Movie” section of the Left menu. Enter a movie name and saving location, select the quality setting (Recommended that you leave on default unless you have a specific requirement for quality/filesize.) Let the movie save and watch it back once completed (optional.)

Congrats! You have made your first movie!

I like my new movie and I want the whole world to see it !! – but they can’t look inside my computer. What am I supposed to do now?

http://video.google.com

http://www.putfile.com

Choose one of the above (I recommend Youtube for ease of use + amount of users)

Firstly you will need to make an account. Registering should only take a few minutes. Once registered, click on the “upload” tab (the furthest tab to the right)

Enter the info and then hit the “ok” button. Then locate your video and begin the upload.

Uploading may take anything from a few minutes to several hours depending on the size of your video. Be patient.

After your long wait you are finally given a link. Should you lose this link don’t sweat it. Just log back into your Youtube account and select “my videos” and it will display your uploaded videos and info about them. Including the link.

Now post the link in a new thread in the rage section of the myg0t forum. NOT the help section. Knowing to post in the correct forum is already a head start.

I posted my video and everyone thinks it’s shit. What did I do wrong?

Watch it back and work out for yourself. First and foremost: Is it entertaining? There is a fine line between funny and utterly stupid. The correct choice of music/sound effects can make the world of difference as well as things as simple as the colour of your text. Take all these into careful consideration.
