February 12, 200421 yr if u looking for an overclocker board get a nforce2 with amd 1700... ive seen that overclocked to 2600 ram atleast 512... vid card. something 128 mb relativly new. radeon or nvidia i dunno other stuff but basics like hd network card blah blah. ok it depnds on your pprice range.

AMD 3200+ went down $100 USD within 2 weeks and at $210 isnt a bad deal. Nforce2 is a very good Mobo. AMD anything is basically great as you can OC them. RAM well corsair,kingston are good 512-1 gig should be fine for the next 3 yrs or more.

February 12, 200421 yr wait for the Prescott to start shipping then prices will drop on other CPU's. Wait for the R420 to ship, you might want to get that instead of the 9800XT since it will become obsolete in a couple of months. Wait until all mobos convert to PCI Express, get one of those. BTX form factor : smaller mobos, smaller cases I wouldn't buy anything now if I were you.

February 12, 200421 yr AMD 2800 barton is the same chip as the 3200, but clocked down to 333 MHz with a raised multiplier (13.5)...if you buy the 2800, clock it to 400MHz and set multiplier at 11, you've got a 3200, just no warranty on it any more. I'm partial to the AMD chips...cheaper, and for gaming, they are faster. For mobo...either go top end with an ASUS setup, or, if you're planning to fuck with it, get the MSI KT6 Delta series, which has a BIOS setup that allows you to do your overclocking purely through BIOS...no jumping pins, or other bullshit (also allows BIOS overclocking of graffy card, RAM, and so on)...plus it saves you purchasing a NIC (on board) has 6 USB on board, SATA and ATA100/133 support, and a coule ther handy doodads (like MB controllers for three seperate 3pin fan leads) basics for a system running XP, IMO would be 2GHz+ proc, 1GB minimum of RAM, rated for fastest speed you plan to run proc at (get PC3200...512 sticks $70 a shot at newegg.com for decent brands), FAST CD-R (hate waiting 45 minutes for an audio cd to burn), get a good CD read rate DVD-ROM (doesn't matter what DVD read rate is, unless you get a burner...then burn rate is important), and don't buy more HDD than you're gonna end up using...but get a GOOD HDD get the highest wattage PSU you can afford to put into it reasonably...many systems starve on 300 watts these days spend your money where it's gonna count...get a GOOD graffy card, GOOD sound setup, GOOD monitor...upgrading a proc isn't a big deal, later on...nor is adding RAM, or switching out drives, but if you skimp on your media equipment, it's costly to upgrade later, and you're unhappy with your system until it's all up to spec. And don't forget cooling....higher speed procs build up heat...cool the case as effectively as possible, as cheaply as possible.
