As the Russians fell back and back, the Red army would group up with the next line of the defense until they were at Moscow. The end result was that 200 full strength divisions was not enough to defeat the Russians, because their defenses were very strong. Had Hitler not delayed his invasion of Russia by 1 month because of Mussolini's incompetence, that war would've ended very differently.
