eh i dont know much about car audio but i want some decent stuff for around $500

what kind of car do you have?

I suggest you go to crutchfield.com

you can click "Find what Fits my Car" and click what you need > sort by customer ratings> find the one with the most highest ratings.

thats what I do, i just put in an Alpine CDA-9856 and Pioneer TS-A6871R 6x8 3-ways.

crutchfield gives you free mounting kits and harnesses, and a master sheet that tells you pretty much all you need to do.

hope that helped

I was about to suggest crutchfield too, they have pretty good deals and they're good for people who no nothing about audio.

crutchfield is fucking gay and too expensive

if ur such a noob u might as well buy noob shit so u can blow ur speakers and sub for cheap try http://www.cardiscountstereos.com

nice setup opter, I've got a pioneer 4ch amp with 4 6x9 kenwood ps series and just one infinity kappa 12" in a box (not much room in the cab) it's not super loud but it sounds pretty good

Crutchfields prices arent bad if your buying a head unit (because of the free install kits ie. the spacers and wiring harness) and if you buy subs from them you get a discount for 2 most of the time. It ends up being a better deal but try ikesound.com for the cheapest speaks. And try blaupunkt for headunits, i hate a shitload of buttons on a head unit, they have a very simple design. hope this helps

** and for proper sound staging you should only use the front speakers, like the front kick panels and the dash tweeters, if your adding a sub no need for 6x9's in the rear. A perfect 'sound stage' is having all the mids/highs come off the hood, just like goin to a concert or w/e.

exactly my 6x9's blew and i dont even need the bass from them cuz my sub is so loud so i just use em for mid and highs

my buddy has infinity subs ( kappa or reference, i cant remember) but they sound great. I am using just a sony xplod p5 the 12" one, and about 400 watts to that and i am more than happy with it. And i have a blaupunkt keywest head unit w/ a dedicated sub out and gives me all the flexability i need. Just hope i give you some direction along w/ opter here :D speakers are fucking sweet. :naughtyd:

I have to agree with Opter, crutchfield is great for anal rape pricing. Get EVERYTHING new off ebay. Seriously, I got some 6x8s off ebay for $66.00 that were $100.00 at circuit city. I also got some Polk MOMO 10" subs new, a pair, for $150.00. Thats wayyyy below retail. for $500.00 I think you could get some nice speakers for your interior and a nice MP3 head unit. The subwoofer venture usually is at least a $400.00 venture on its own, what with amp, wires, box, sub(s), etc etc.

Bottom line, go to circuit city, listen to the speakers there, find ones you like and a head unit, get them on ebay, and get a car stereo literate freind to help you install them (maybe throw a few $$ at him for his troubles)

Ebay can be sketchy though, i buy records from there just not electronics. Another thing to look at is the sensitivity ratings of the subs, really go for 91 db per 1 watt. Compared to 87 - 89 its a huge jump in output volume. To gain i think 3 db's (wich is a huge gain) you need to double the wattage that is put through the speakers. The infinity reference or kappa are 91 db /1 watt and the kickers are 89 db, just somthing to keep in mind.
